These photographs of Marie on the left and Mary Lawrence on the right were probably taken about 1918 when Marie would have been 9 and Mary Lawrence about 6.

When they were born, the family lived in Lone Oak on North Friendship Road.  In about 1919, Papa bought a farm near Maxon Mill, in West Paducah, of  about 100 acres.  He planted peach trees but, when he had a large harvest, it was also a good year for everyone and the prices were low. He made very little money as
a peach farmer. They lived there until about 1933, then moved to New Hope, where they lived until Papa died.

All of us grandchildren remember the farm in New Hope well.  Papa raised hogs, chickens,  cows, and tobacco and a garden. Every Saturday, they went to Paducah to sell milk and eggs and produce from the garden.  He had an old Terraplane automobile with a homemade shelf on the back where he carried the produce.  In the fall he slaughtered hogs, and all year long he worked on his tobacco in some way.

Class photo of the Little Union School near Maxon Mill in West Paducah, Ky, probably taken around 1921. Dorothy Burnett Johns said it was a one room school house with 1st through 8th grades.  Left to Right: First row:  unknown Gifford,  A. C. Nanny,  J. C. Harris,  unknown,  Melvin Walkman,  Marshall Gorden,  unknown Gorden. Second row:  unknown,  Dorothy Burnett,  Louise Harris,  Marjorie Harris,  unknown,  unknown Barbour,  Eleanor McNeal,  Johnny Barnett.  Third row:  Marjorie Hedden,  Annie May Harris,  Julie Lee, unknown,  Teacher Mary Bell Cross,  Clara Walkman,  Opel Harris,  Opal Nunley. Fourth row:Mary L. Burnett,  Rachel Barbour,  unknown,  Evelyn Walker,  LaBanchie McNeal,  Marie Burnett. Fifth row:  Bill Grogan,  Edward Harris,  Rudy Hester,  Willard Nunley, James Elliott Burnett,  unknown..

Below is a recent photograph of the Little Union School building.  It is still there, at the end of the old Hinkleville Road,  and is used as a community center.  The school went through the 8th grade, then from there the children went to Heath High School, where they graduated.

Papa and Mama and the three youngest children, circa 1926, based on Kathryn, who was born in 1924, being about 2 years old.  The children are, left to right, Kathryn Anita, Milton Ray, and Ruth Virginia.
Kathryn, Ruth, and Ray about two years later.

The oldest girls, Mary L., Dot and Marie in 1926.  Notice that in almost all the pictures, Mary L. is on the left, probably because she was the tallest.

L to R; Mary L, Marie, Dot, and their cousin Evelyn Sue Harper; the picture is dated April 31, 1932

The pictures below were also taken the same day, April 31, 1932, because Mary L., Dot, and Evelyn are wearing the same dresses and the trees are the same.  After much discussion between Mother, Bob and Pat, Brenda and David and observations by Sue Terhune, we have all come to the conclusion that the pictures were probably taken in the back yard of Chester and Addie Harpers home on the Clinton road at an Elliott family gathering for some occasion, and that the people most likely are, L to R:  Mary L, Uncle Jim Elliott (James Redmond Elliott, Mama's brother), Aunt Lorena (James' wife), Papa Burnett, Marie, Chester Harper (with baseball mits), Dorothy, Aunt Addie Harper, Sue Harper (not yet Godfrey), and Mama Burnett.  The "Kids" are most likely: Ray Burnett,  Ruth Burnett (in front), Homer Harper, Katherine Burnett, and Jim Elliott, Jr. (son of Uncle Jim).  The picture was probably taken by either Harold Hall or Carl Osborne, both of which could have been there.

Another picture taken the same day; Addie Harper, Lorena Elliott, and Ora Burnett.

Ruth Virginia Burnett about 1938
James Elliott Burnett about 1940
