Site Status Log of the Osborn-Ausburn Surname DNA
Project
Project Status
February
14, 2009: Results for Robert D Osborn, FG28;
Aubrey Charles Osman, FG29; and Michael Cordell Ozbun, FG30, were added to
all appropriate tables and new FGs were made.
We are still waiting ancestral lines for Robert and Micael. Joseph Martin Osborne now has Deep Clade
results back and his Haplotype was changed to green to indicate that. We now have 107 members in the project, and
102 kits have been returned. Of the 5
outstanding, one is a new member, but 4 kits have been out a long time and
may never be returned. One person has
returned his kit, but is wating results.
Several people still have not sent their ancestral ines.
January
18, 2009: The ancestral lines in Family
Group 11 were changed to reflect recent information that shows that Donalds
earliest known ancestor, Edmund Osburn, is NOT the same as the Edmund Osborn,
son of Reuben Osborn m Ellen Middlebrook, as previously thought.
January
10, 2009: The project now has 103 members
including 4 who have not returned kits.
Four kits have been out many months and may never be returned. One person is not related to the Osborn line
at all, but was testing to see if he was.
Two kits have been returned and are awaiting results. All results that have been returned are
posted as well as results from recent upgrade orders. The most recent addition is Dale Evert
Osborn who is in a group by himself, FG 27.
I have updated the summary page and added migration maps for the 4
haplogroups represented in the project.
November
6, 2008: The project now has 101 members including 4
who have not returned kits. One of
these kits is expected back anytime, but three kits have been out many months
and may never be returned. One person
is not related to the Osborn line at all, but was testing to see if he
was. All the results from everyone who
has returned their kit have been posted.
All results from recent upgrade orders are also posted. There are new additons to Family Groups 11
and 2. The total number of Family
Groups remains at 26. This means that
out of almost 100 people tested, there are 26 unrelated lines
represented. Several people still have
not sent in their ancestral lines.
August
12, 2008: The project now has 98 members including 4
who have not returned kits. All the
results from everyone who has returned their kit have been posted. All results from recent upgrade orders are
also posted. There are new additons to
Family Group 4, and several new Family Groups have been added with the total
number of Family Groups now up to 26.
This means that out of almost 100 people tested, there are 26
unrelated lines represented. Several
people still have not sent in their ancestral lines.
November
21, 2007: The project now has 86 members including 5
who have not returned kits and 2 who are awaiting their results. There are four new additons to Family Group
4, Geoff L Osborne, Marshall K Osborne, Robert T Osborne, and J David
Osborn. One new member, William L
Osborne is not related to anyone else in the project so will be shown in a
new Family Group 23 when I receive his ancestral line. All members with results returned are shown
in the Genetic Distance Tables and the Alleles Table, and ancestral lines are
shown for the new members in FG4 if they are known.
June
16, 2007: Results have been returned for the 37-marker
test for Mark in FG4; 25- and 37-marker results for Ronald E and Van in FG1;
and for 12-markers for new member Richard W Osborn who is in FG4. These new results allow the projection of
new 37-marker Ancestral Haplotypes for FG1 and FG4; see the Alleles table and
individual pages for discussion.
May
11, 2007: Results and ancestral lines for new members
Daniel Earl Osborne and Darlene Osborne, brother and sister; Donald Lee Osborne; and Douglas E Osborne
have been added. Daniel and Donald Lee are both in Family Group
4. Douglas
is not related to anyone else in the project, so was added to a new Family
Group 22. Daniel was tested by
Relative Genetics but is a perfect match to David M Osborne on the 25-marker
test, so Genetic Distance and FTDNATip numbers for David M were used.
April
20, 2007: New members Mark Osborn and Bartley Osborne
results and ancestral lines have been added.
Both are in Family Group 4. The
Family Group 4 page was changed substantially to reflect the new information
for Mark and Bart, and new linkage for Nancy and Wayne, and as a result has
been renamed to Probable Descendants of Thomas Osborne and Mary Goatley of
Ashford, Co. Kent, England. A new Likely Ancestral Haplotype line was
added to the Alleles table for FG4. A
few inappropriate members were removed from the project and new ones have
joined us so we now have 72 members and 68 kits returned.
April
7, 2007: New member Bartley P Osborne’s results have
been added to all the tables. He falls
in Family Group 4, but his ancestral line as not yet been received. All tables have been updated to reflect all
upgrades and new members.
April 2,
2007: New member Lloyd W Osborn was added to a new
Family Group 21. His genetic distance is 2 to the nearest members of the surname project,
James Ausburn and Harry D Ozburn, who are presently shown in Family Group
2. By current rules, a GD of 2 means
probably not related, so this indicates that Lloyd is probably not related in
recent genealogical times to anyone else in the project at the present
time. Navigation bars were removed
from the Family Group pages to reduce the amount of work required to add a
new FG. We now have 73 members with 67
kits returned. Results for new member
Bradley P Osborne will be posted later.
March
20, 2007: New member Richard N Osborne was added to a
new Family Group 19. The 25 marker
results of Felipe Osborne Shea show that he is NOT related to anyone in
Family Group 1 as had previously been presumed based on his 12-marker results
or to anyone else in the project. So
he and Jeffrey P Osborne, who is a perfect match to Felipe on the 12-marker
test have been moved to a new Family Group 20. This is the first instance in our project
where the 25-marker results did not confirm the 12-marker results but,
according to FTDNA, it not that unusual.
We now have 71 members in the project with 66 kits returned. All the pages on the site were upgraded and
the font converted to Verdana and the background lightened for better
readability.
January
23, 2007: Two members of FG4, Nancy Jones and David M
Osborne, have received results for the 67-marker test and they are shown in
an additional Alleles table for 38 to 67 markers, and their genetic distance
is shown on a new 67 marker table.
They are different by only one point in 2 Alleles in the composite all
of the 67-markers giving them an overall genetic distance of 2. FTDNA calls this result “Tightly Related”
with this definition: “You share the
same surname (or a variant) with another male and you mismatch by only one or
two 'points' at only one marker. It's most likely that you matched 36/37 or
37/37 on a previous Y-DNA test. Very few people achieve this close level of a
match. All confidence levels are well within the time frame that surnames
were adopted in Western Europe.” FTDNATip results are shown on
the “mouse over’ on the 67 marker table. 12-marker results have been added for Felipe
Osborne Shea in FG1 and his known line has been added to the FG1 page. However his line is not known far enough
back to connect to the other lines.
Van C Osborne’s known ancestors have been added to the FG1 page, and a
possible connection to the Capt Thomas line is shown based on the name of his
great-grandfather. 12-marker results
for Warren D Osborn have been added in FG4, but we do not know his ancestral
line. Raymond K Osborne’s 12 marker
results have been received. He has an
I1a Haplotype, and is shown in the I Haplotype table, but does not match
anyone else in the project, so he forms a new Family Group 18. We do not yet have his ancestral line. The Project Summary page has been updated
and the rules for 67 marker genetic distances have been added. The FTDNATip page has been updated. We now have 69 members with 64 kits
returned.
November
19, 2006: 12-marker results have been added
for Jay M Osman, James F Osburn, and Van C
Osborne. Jay M Osman joins us
from the Genographic project and is in Family Group 7, joining Lorri French’s
husband Michael Osborn, and Garry and Sharon Osmun. Although closely related, these three do
not have any idea of how they are related yet. Jay’s ancestral line has been added to the
Family Group 7 page. James F Osburn is
the only person in the project with an E3b Haplogroup, and
as such, he is not even remotely related to anyone else in the project. Consequently, it makes no sense to make a
genetic distance table to the other members of the project and none is shown
at this time. However, his alleles are
shown in the Alleles table, and a brief discussion of the origins of the E3b
Haplogroup is shown on the Project Summary Page. When his ancestral line is available it
will be shown on his
new Family Group 17 page. Van C
Osborne is a perfect 12-marker match to most people in Family Group 1 and is
therefore another descendant of Capt Thomas Osborne. When his ancestral line is known, it will
be added to the Family Group 1 page.
We now have 66 total members; results are back for all 61 kits that
have been returned, but 5 kits have not been returned. Two members are not listed on the web site
because they do not have an Osborn or variant surname and so their results
are not applicable.
July
23, 2006: 12-marker results have been added
for Charles M Osborn, Jerry Osborn, and Kevin T Ozburn, all of which fall
into Family Group 2. Ancestral lines
have been added for Charles and Jerry; we are still waiting for Kevin’s
ancestors. 25-marker results have also
been added for Jerry and Kevin. Jerry
has ordered a 37-marker test but the results aren’t back yet. David M Osborne
in FG4 has order a 67-marker test but final results aren’t back yet; he is
hoping others in that group will also
upgrade (Thanks for being first David).
We now have 64 total members; results are back for all kits that have
been returned, but 6 kits have not been returned. Three members are not listed on the web
site because they do not have an Osborn or variant surname and so their
results are not applicable.
May
20, 2006: 25- and 37-marker results have
been added for Joe Osborn, Darrell Lee Osborn, and Rhonda Ballinger. Rhonda remains a perfect match to Debra
Spindle for both tests, indicating a close common ancestor. Darrell’s results continue to show that he
is not related to anyone in Family Group 4, and a statement summarizing the
results was added to his section of FG2.
April
6, 2006: 12-marker results and ancestral
line have been added for Denver Jackson Osborn who falls in Family Group 4;
12-marker results and ancestral line have been added for Rhonda Ballinger who
joins Debra Spindle in Family Group 9;
and 25 marker results have been added for John E Osborne in Family
Group 4. A section has been added in
Family Group 4 which gives a hypothetical explanation of how all the people
in Family Group 4 could be related and have the dna results reported.
February
26, 2006: 12-marker results have been added
for John E Osborne who falls in subset B of Family Group 4, with perfect
matches to Christopher, David M, and Gerald Arthur. He descends from William W. Osborn, b 1806
in NJ. The 12-marker table has been
replaced by three individual tables, one for each Haplogroup represented in
the project.
February
25, 2006: Meredith E Osborne and Karma and
Leo Osborn 12-marker results and family group pages have been added. Neither are related to anyone else in the
project so have been given Family Group Pages 15 and 16 respectively.
February
18, 2006: Carlton Osburns results have been
added to the 12 and 25 marker tables, and the Alleles table. He is a perfect match to Merlyn Robb Osborn
on the 12-marker test and a genetic distance of 1 on the 25-marker test. The ancestral lines of both have been added
to Family Group Page 11.
February
13, 2006: Much has changed since the last
major update of the web site. First,
the project has grown rapidly in the last couple of months and we are now up
to 54 members, and 51 kits have been returned. Results have been returned for 45 kits,
leaving 6 people waiting for results.
We now have 3 people who have transferred in from the Genographic
project. We have made a major
reorganization of the web site. With
the growth of the project, the original one-page design with the narrative
and tables all on one page had grown so large it took a long time to
download. One of our new members, John
E Osborne, is a web designer, and graciously offered to help me split up the
information into smaller chunks and designed a well organized home page with
some graphics and icons. Thank you
John! He will continue to assist on
occasion. As part of the reorganization,
I have consolidated the three different terms used to refer to the Subgroup
pages into one term; they are now only referred to as Family Groups and
Pages, although the numbering remains the same. New results are posted for Gary E Osborn in
Family Page 2. While posting Gary’s results, I
re-ordered the sequence in the 12-marker table to better reflect the genetic
distance progression going down the table.
New results have been posted for Garry Osmun who joins Michael Osborn
(i.e. Lorri French) in Family Group 7.
Lorri is glad to have company.
This is a very interesting situation because Garry and Michael are
perfect matches at both 12 and 25 markers, indicating a relatively close
common ancestor, yet the names are spelled quite differently and neither know
how they might be connected. Several
Family Group Pages are still waiting on ancestral information, and I’d like
to encourage those people to get their information to me. There are still 14 distinct lines, although
the closeness of Groups 1 and 2 probably indicates a common ancestor between
those two groups.
December
22, 2005: Added the 12, 26, and 37 marker
results, and a new Subgroup 14 page for James Elkin Osbourn. We still have 44 members, now with 42
results returned and shown on the web page.
Two people have not returned their kits. Of the 42 who have had results returned,
there are now 14 distinct lines. In
those 14 lines there are 4 subgroups with several people in each who are apparently
related. Some know how they are
related to each other as shown on the subgroup pages, and some do not as in
Subgroup 4. However, there are 10
people who are not related to each other or anyone else in the project as
defined by the genetic distance rules.
Several Subgroup pages are awaiting ancestral information.
November
29, 2005: Added the 12 marker results for
Darrell Lee Osborn; 12, 26, and 37
marker results for Joseph W Osborne; 25 marker results for Gerald Arthur
Osborn; 25 and 37 marker results for Nancy Jones; and 12 and 25 marker results
for Marvin A Ausburn. We now have 44
members, of which 41 have had results returned, 1 is waiting for results, and
2 have not returned their kits yet. Of
the 41 who have had results returned, there are 13 distinct lines. In those 13 lines there are 4 subgroups with several people in
each who are apparently related. Some
know how they are related to each other as shown on the subgroup pages, and
some do not as in Subgroup 4. However,
there are 9 people who do not fall in any subgroup, and are not related to
each other or anyone else in the project as defined by the genetic distance
rules.
August
9, 2005: Added
the 26 to 37 marker results for Peter C Osborne and Debra O Spindle. These results confirm prior results of
markers 0 to 25.
August
3, 2005: The
project has grown significantly since the last update. We now have 41 members. Two kits are still out, and one is waiting
for results. The new members with
results posted on this update are:
Peter C. Osborne and Jeffrey P Osborne, who are in Subgroup 1; Wayne
Osborne and Gerald Arthur Osborn, who are in Subgroup 4; Michael Osborne, Esq
who is in a new Subgroup by himself, Subgroup 10; and Merlyn Robb Osborn,
also in a new Subgroup 11 by himself.
Michael Osborne is our only member from England. We want to welcome him and hope that we can
attract some others from England. Michael transferred to our group from the
Genographic project. Several of our
members have had their results transferred TO the Genographic project. For a while, we had a separate Osborn
surname project listed which was supposed to act as a “funnel” to the main
project, but that didn’t happen. So
Tony and I decided to combine the Osborn project with the original
Ausburn-Osborn project and rename the combined project Osborn-Ausburn, which
you will see on most, hopefully all, pages.
Since Tony founded the project, it has become obvious that Osborn and
variations is the dominant spelling and so we changed the name to recognize
that. The search function on the FTDNA
page will return Osborn-Ausburn for ALL spelling variations.
May 8, 2005: 25 and 37 marker results for Christopher Osborne and
David M. Osborn have been received and added to the web page. A new table of genetic distances for 37
marker tests has been added. There are
now 5 people in the project who have had 37 marker tests, one in Subgroup 1,
three in Subgroup 4, and one in Subgroup 6.
This Page Status page has been moved to a separate page to reduce
clutter on the main page, and a few other editorial and format changes
(improvements?) have been made. As of
May 8, 2005, there are 36 members in the project; 35 have ordered kits; 32
have had results returned and shown on the main page; and three kits are
still out.
January 29 2005: 12 marker results for Christopher Osborne
have been received and added to the web page.
He is belongs to Subgroup 4 with a perfect match to David M. Osborne
and close matches to others in that subgroup.
Christopher’s ancestral line has been added to the Subgroup 4
page.
December 3, 2004: Added
FDNATiPTM probabilities to the Geneitic Distance Tables and a
short paragraph on what FDNATiPTM is; also added a separate more
detailed page on FDNATiPTM.
Jed Osborn’s ancestors were added to the Subgroup 6 page.
November 28, 2004: 12 and 25
marker results for Debra Osborne Spindle have been received and are shown on
the web page. She is using her brother
as surogate. Her results do not match
anyone currently in the project, and the closest member is Michael Osborn
with a genetic distance of 7 on the 12 marker test, and a genetic distance of
9 on the 25 marker test, both of which are classified as no
relationship. However, the haplogroup
prediction for both her and Michael is Haplogroup I, the only I haplogroups
in the project. Consequently, Debra is
in a new Subgroup 9 where her ancestors are shown. We also have a new member, Christopher
Osborne; welcome Christopher.
November 9, 2004: 12 marker
results for Jed E Osborn have been received and added. He belongs to Subgroup 6 with a perfect
match to most people in that Subgroup.
Jed’s ancestors will be added to the Subgroup 6 page when I receive
them.
October 8, 2004: Nancy
Osburn Jones and her surrogate testee, Donald L Osburn, have joined our
project. She had already had the 12
marker test performed before she discovered our project, so we have moved her
results into our project. Welcome to
Nancy and Donald. They fall in
Subgroup 4 with perfect 12 marker matches to John P. and Donald G. Results for Benjamin R Ozbun have just been
reported, and as expected he is in Subgroup 6. Larry Ozbun has had his 25 marker results
returned and he is a perfect 25 marker match to Lee.
August 8, 2004: 12 marker
results for Richard C Osborn have been received and added. He belongs to Subgroup 6 with a perfect
match to most people in that Subgroup.
Cllifton’s ancestors have been added to the Subgroup 1 page.
July 28, 2004: The latest
additions are the results of 25 marker tests for Clifton Osborne, and 12
marker tests for Charles E Osborne. Clifton’s 25 marker results further confirm that he is
in subgroup 1 and has a perfect 25 marker match to George Osborne both having
the ancestral haplotype (I have not received Clifton’s ancestors, so they are not yet
shown on the Subgroup 1 page). Charles
E Osborne’s results show that he is in Subgroup 6 with a perfect 12 marker
match to Sharon
in that subgroup. Lee Osborne has
received the results of his SNP test which confirms he is in Haplogroup R1a ,
which in turn indicates that the Haplogroup for everyone in Subgroup 6 is
R1a. For each person’s
ancestors, see the Subgroup links
shown in the Genetic distance results and Allele table.
