of Andreas KILLIAN
First
Generation
1. Andreas KILLIAN was born in 1702 in Renhish,Palatine, Bavaria,
Germany. He died on 14 Apr 1788 in Lincolnton, Lincoln, North Carolina. He was
buried in Conover, Catawba, North Carolina.
English given name Andrew.
Andreas's birth place and
parentage is unproven. Some believe it is Johannes Phillipp Wolfgang Kilian
born 1 May 1654, but research
indicates this is probably not true. I
have included him in my database
but disconnected to Andreas.
Some have death in Lincoln Co.,
NC.
Buried Old St. Paul Luthern
Church Catawba, NC.
Tombstone reads born 1702 died 14
Apr 1788.
An Andreas Kilean signed an Oath
of Allegiance saying the passengers came from "the palatinate upon
the Rhine and places
adjacent." This includes parts of
Germany now in France (Alsace and Lorraine)
and the German speaking part of
Switzerland. Andreauss Killaen arrived
at Philadelphia, PA on the
English ship 'Adventure' 4 Oct
1732. Signed oath of allegiance to colonial government 23 Sep 1732.
Difference must be due to 11 day
difference in Julian vs Gregorian calendars? England and colonies
were on Julian, Germany Gregorian
in 1732.
Passenger list says he was 30
which gives birth year 1701 or 1702. How
did children born before 1732
arrive? They were not on passenger list. This raises
question of the two Andreas's being the same.

The family history written by

Hiram born in 1836 in Harris co.

in Benton co. AL to his great
great aunt Elizabeth Killian Houk, youngest daughter of Andreas Killian. It

stepmother and older sisters came
to America on the ship Adventure. She told how Henry and his
siblings went to TN with grandfather

"John Killian (b.1758), the
Rev. soldier, son of Leonard, moved to Clark's Creek in 1784 to live next to
Andreas Killian and John Killian
Sr., when he bought 200-acres from Thomas Winkler and wife, Ann May
(Lincoln County DB2 page 740).
Both "Johan Kilian" (1758) and his wife, "Susanna Kilian"
had first
communions on 16 Oct 1785 at
"Saut Fork Cataba", according to Rev. Johann Gottfried Arends' diary.
In
about 1817, John (b.1758) had
moved to Warren County, TN, then about 1828 to Orange County, IN."
per Gene Killian.
Per Bill Hinds:
After the American Revolutionary
War, John married and lived in North Carolina until just before the
1820 census, when he moved to
Warren County, Tennessee. This agrees with John's testimony in court
in Indiana (1833 and 1835) in
conjunction with his Revolutionary War Pension application._"Soldier
John"
personally appeared in open Court
before the Court of Probate of Orange County, Indiana on November
11, 1833 (and again on 11
February 1835). When duly sworn he stated that he was seventy-five years of
age and that he entered the
services of the United States in 1780 as a Private under the command of
Captain John Horsenberger and
that he was called into the service of the United States in consequence
of the draft. He stated that he
was living in Lincoln County, North Carolina when drafted, and that
following his service he returned
there, where he continued to live until 1820, when he moved to Warren
County, Tennessee. His statement
indicated that he resided there eight years, then he moved to Orange
County, Indiana where he had
lived for four years at the time of his appearing. _"Soldier John's"
statement recounts details of his
wartime service, including his discharge by Captain Horsenberger at
Wilmington after three months
service. He stated that he reached home, a distance of 300 miles, after
fifteen days. His discharge
papers were destroyed when his house burned (in 1828). In his affadavit he
states ..."The applicant was
born in Lincoln County, in the state of North Carolina in the year 1758 - that
he has no record of his age but
recollects frequent reference to a family Bible kept by his father in which
the age of applicant was marked
down, and he said Bible has _____ into other hands or was lost many
years ago - applicant cannot
positively state what has become of the Bible, that applicant _____ whilst
and during the existence of said
Bible took his memorandum of his birth therefrom and placed it on paper
- which birth is dated on the
10th (or could be 20th) day of June 1758." _In further attempts to prove
his
entitlement to the pension,
"Soldier John" again appeared in court on February 11, 1835 with a
clergyman and another well known
citizen who attested to his identity and stated that they believed him
to be a veteran of the American
Revolution. _But the confusion continues. On October 5, 1968 the
Hindostan Falls (Indiana) Chapter
of the Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated a marker to
the memory of John Killion. The
newspaper "The Shoales News" of Shoales Indiana, October 9, 1968
carried an article and picture
about the dedication. The DAR marker indicates that John Killion died
September 17, 1834, a date that
is certainly wrong, since he appeared in court on February 11, 1835.
The newspaper photograph shows
that the new marker is near the original gravestone and from the
photograph it appears that the
date on the original tombstone is really September 17, 1839. This is also
confusing, since the original
tombstone gives the age at death as 75, which was his age when he gave
his affidavit in court, not his
age when he died. _In his 1970 book, Killian historian George W. Killian
states: "It is believed by
some Killion and/or Killian researchers that the soldier, John Killion, was the
son
of John Killian who was the son
of Andreas Killian." Apparently this erroneous conclusion is drawn
because of the wrong date of
death and reference to his being age 75 at time of death, based on the D.A.
R. monument, which cannot be
correct based on court records. If John was born in 1758 as he testified,
then he was unquestionable the
son of Leonard. Leonard's brother, John the son of Andreas, married
about 1759 and we know that
Jacob, born April 8, 1760 was his oldest son_During the time John lived in
Martin and Orange County,
Indiana, Leonard's sons, Mathias and William, were no more than 20 and 40
miles away (Mathias died in 1830
in Daviess County. Adam was dead, but all of his children were about
100 miles away. Most of Mathias'
and William's known children were in an area of less than 50 miles
from where John lived in Indiana.
Furthermore, at this time all the known Killians and Killions in southern
and western Indiana were
Leonard's descendants, with two possible exceptions: (1) Sarah, who married
Michael Teague in North Carloina
and settled in Indiana, exact dates unknown at this time. While her
lineage is not known at this
time, Sarah is more likely a descendant of Michael Killion, American
Revolutionary War soldier of
Orange and Stokes County, North Carolina, possibly through his son,
Henry, who lived in Bledsoe
County, Tennessee in the early 1800's. John did have a daughter who may
have married and could have moved
to Indiana, but the best evidence indicates she would have been
several years younger than Sarah
Killian Teague. (2) The second exception is Jacob Killion, the
revolutionary soldier who was in
Orange County, Indiana in 1835, previously in Kentucky and West
Virginia, who died in Sangamon
County, Illinois in 1838, who was also most likely a descendant of
Michael Killion of Orange County,
North Carolina.
