Descendants of Nathaniel ALMOND

 

 

First Generation

 

1. Nathaniel ALMOND was born in 1730/1732 in , , Virginia. He died before 1790 in , Orange, North Carolina.

 

Death place likely to have been old Orange Co. formerly part of Wake Co, NC, but now extreme

southeastern part of Durham Co. Nortel facility now located on his former farm and no trace of graves

(per Lee Almond). Some sources says he died in Richmond County, NC.

Per Francis Allman Beaver, had land next to son Richard in northern Wake Co, NC in 1772/3(old Orange

Co). Before Nathaniel, line was in Isle Of Wight County, VA.

According to the Almon Branch Book in possession of Hudson Alexander, four of Nathaniel's brothers

went to old Anson County (now Richmond). Several got involved in the Regulator Movement, which

ultimately became generally unpopular. Many involved left the area, some changing their names. There

was a Matthew born 16 Jun 1782 in that area, the son of a John Almond. One of Nathaniel's brothers

was named John. Matthew moved to Indiana and is progenitor to the Almonds in IN & IA. The book "

ALMON BRANCH SEEKING NEW FRONTIERS" was self published by Eddie Almon Redmon-Hilliard

and has 664 pages.

Per Debi Carlson, article on Allman family in the Buncombe County History book says Nathan Allman of

Wake County had five sons - John Richard, Thomas, Nathan Jr., Edward, and Martin.

1779 Orange County, NC tax lists shows Nathaniel Almond.

"...the following Grants from Richard Caswell Esquire Governor to Sundry Inhabitants of Wake County

being Exhibited into Court 'twas Ordered that the same be Registered, to wit:_Richard Almond 387 acs

Lying on the Northside of the Cedar Prong of Kitts Creek (Waters of No. East of New Hope Creek) about

1779 Nathaniel Almond on tax roll for Orange Co, NC. Not sure if Nathaniel Sr. or son.

"Nathan Almond of Wake Co. to Moses Roberts. 15 Dec 1785, for 30 pds. Specie a tract of 100 acres

lying on the north side of Cedar Fork of Kits Creek adjoining said Moses Roberts' old line. Wit: Going

Barbee, Sam'l Marcrom."

"Nathaniel Jones, Junr. of Wake Co., planter, to John Motley of same, planter, 31 Oct 1785, for 50 pds.

specie a tract of 100 acres lying on the drain of Gibson Creek adjoining Blake and Nathan Aldmon, it

Served in Revolutionary War for nine months around 1781 from Orange County, NC. He was on Deep

River three months and guarded the Tories at Hillsborough, NC six months. Judy applied for his pension

16 Sep 1844 while living with her son, Nathan in Niangna County, MO (now Dallas County). Thomas was

not listed in NC roster, so application was refused.

Thomas married Judith HOLLAND Judy on 11 Nov 1780 in , Orange, North Carolina. Judith was born about 1760 in , , North Carolina. She died after 1850.

 

Judith Holland Allman lived in Niangua County (now Dallas County, MO) on 16 Sep 1844 when she

applied for Thomas's pension. On 2 Feb 1846 she filed supplemental declaration saying the correct

spelling was Almond.

Edward Almond was listed in a Montgomery County deed as early as 1781, when on 28 January, he "

entered" 200 acres in Montgomery County which "includes the 'plantation' whereon Hosa [sic] Roland

lives."27 Then on 18 August 1787, "Edmund" Almond entered 150 acres in the deed book "on the E. side

of Big Bear Creek, partly on said creek below the 'plantation' I live on... 'as' I purchased of Ann Bankston."

28 Thirdly, on 25 May 1794, he "entered" 100 acres on Alegato Branch, waters of Rocky River, and "runs

up and down the river below the mouth of Long Creek."

"In the name of God Amen, I Edward Almond Senr of the County of Montgomery and State of North

Carolina, being weak in body but of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will &

testament in the manner following viz: First I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Susannah

Almond four negroes named as follows (viz) Winny, Sally, Emaline and Fanny to her, and to the heirs of

her body provided nevertheless that the said Susannah Almond shall die childless then and in that case

it is my desire that my beloved son Aaron Almond shall remove back to his county, and to have them but

not to take them to any pary of the County. It is also my will, wish and desire that one hundred acres of

land including my plantation two horses, my old negro man Bill, two beds, and furniture, to be reserved to

my beloved daughter Susannah Almond during her life or as long as she remains unmarried provided

the same is not likely to be willfully destroyed or made away with by the said Susannah Almond in that

case I wish it instantly to be seized by my Executor and proceeded with as hereinafter directed. In case

the Susannah Almond should marry or at ther death I wish them sold and divided as I shall direct for my

other property. I also give to the said Susannah Almond all my corn, wheat, bacon &c. necessary for the

support of the family or a sufficiency thereof to support them until there can be another crop raised.

Secondly I give and bequeath to Killis Almond my negro man Cot. Thirdly I will that the remainder of my

property be sold and after my just debts are paid that the remainder of the profits arising from the same

be divided between my children as follows. I give to my son Edward Almond three dollars. I give to the

heirs of my beloved daughter Polly Stokes one dollar each, and the remainder to be divided between

Nancy Hearne, Edmund Almond, Sally Pryor and Aaron Almond so that each shall have an equal share

of the same._"Fourthly I do hereby make ordain and appoint my trusty friend Lindsy F. Cagle, my

Executor to execute this my last will & testament and I do by these presents revoke declaim annull and

make void all othe wills and testaments heretofore made by me, but this to be my last will & testament
