James Martin KNOX

James Martin Knox, the son of Joseph Knox and Elizabeth Jordan, was born on 22 January 1842.

He enlisted in Company B of the 47th Alabama Infantry Regiment and served as a private with that regiment throughout the war. He was paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia on 9 April 1865.

He returned home to Tallapoosa County and it was there that he married William Ann Finch Simmons. William Ann was the daughter of Edward Finch and she was born on 2 June 1839. William Ann was the widow of Henry D. Simmons, whom she had married on 29 September 1861. Henry D. was also a member (Private/Lieutenant) of the same company of the 47th Alabama Infantry Regiment as James M. Knox. Henry, born in 1839, was killed in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on 3 July 1863. Henry and William Ann very likely did not have children. Henry D. Simmons was the brother of Elizabeth Antionett Simmons COSBY

James died on 6 November 1913 and William Ann died on 21 July 1928. They are buried in the Sardis Methodist Cemetery in Tallapoosa County, Alabama.
