Mary Jane JOHNSTON * James Daniel
MEADOWS
Mary Jane Johnston was born in Harris County, Georgia on 21 March 1834. When her mother died, Mary Jane was only 10 years old. At the age of fourteen, on 03 September 1848 she married James Daniel Meadows of Upson County, Georgia. James was the son of Milus Rohley Meadows and Susan Parker. James siter, Rutha, married Mary Jane's brother, John Y. James was sheriff of Tallapoosa County, Alabama for a time. He also was enlisted in Company A, 1st Alabama Volunteer Infantry and Artillery and was a Captain. They belonged to the Primative Baptist Church. Mary Jane died on 12 April 1894 and James died on 14 January 1900. They are buried in the Johnston Cemetery at Walnut Hill, Tallapoosa County, Alabama, along with several of their children who died young.
