Joseph BURSON * Tabitha UMPHRESS

Joseph Burson was born 29 February 1848 in Cherokee County, Alabama. The family moved to Tallapoosa County where he married Tabitha Umphress on 20 January 1876. Tabitha was the daughter of Edmund and Sallie Sarah (Canada) Umphress.  Tabitha was born on 08 May 1858 and died on 18 November 1924. Joseph died on 19 March 1921  at Novice, Coleman County, Texas. They are buried in the Midway Cemetery in northwestern Coleman County, close to his sister Sarah Burson Lipp. Among those also buried in the Midway Cemetery are members of the Gray, Pattillo, Porch, and Canada families.

Known children:(1910 census shows Tabitha had 6 children, 4 still living)

• Emma Lee BURSON, born  October 1880, married Howard Baldwin

• John Marion BURSON, born 1882, married Salley F. Porch

• Irving Jackson BURSON, born 1884, married Cordelia M. Bates

• Edmon Floyd BURSON, born 1887 Runnels County, Texas, married Grace Golden

NOTE: Tabitha and Jesse both have 1858 as birthdate on their tombstones, and being as they are not at least 9 months difference between these two dates, I have to assume one of them is wrong.
