John Mack BURSON

John Mack Burson was born 08 February 1842 in Cherokee County, Alabama. He married Sarah Eleanor Ray on 09 December 1869. Sarah was born on 26 January 1852 in Milledgeville, Georgia, the daughter of Alcybiades Ray and Mary Jane Buckner.

John was a private in Co. D, 53rd Alabama Cavalry. He was captured and later paroled on 18 May 1865 in Montgomery, Alabama. Parole record describes him as 6 feet 1 inch, hair dark, eyes blue, complexion fair. The family later moved to Texas and settled in Erath County in about 1884. John was a carpenter and farmer.

John died on 12 February 1930 in Dublin, Erath County, Texas and Sarah died on 07 April 1933 in Dublin. They are buried in the Old Dublin Memorial Park.
