Rutha HOWELL * James FINCH

Rutha Howell was born on 7 January 1836, the daughter of Joshua Howell and Mary Buce. She married James Finch in 1858 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. He served in the Civil War with the 47th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company B. He died during that service on 15 July 1863 in Gordonsville, Virginia. Rutha, widowed, is found in Tallapoosa County in 1870 living with two young children.

Rutha later  (1875 Elmore County, Alabama) married a widower, Robert Jefferson Hendricks/Hendrix. Robert and first wife Celia had several children, listed below.

Robert and wife Rutha, in 1887, moved the family by train to Louisiana, then by oxen and wagons to Oklahoma, after stopping off a few weeks in Strong, Union County, Arkansas where many Tallapoosa families had migrated. Robert and Rutha continued on to Oklahoma, settling in Madill. Some went on to Rocky and Hobart area. Around 1900, Robert, Rutha and youngest daughter, Mary Jane, moved back to Union County, Arkansas.

Robert died on 26 April 1907 and Rutha died on 15 November 1908. They are buried in the Sweet Home Cemetery, near Strong, Union County, Arkansas.
