Horningtoft parish lies south of Fakenham on the B1146 Fakenham to East Dereham road. The main part of the village lies to the west of the road around the church with scattered farms forming the majority of the population it always was a relatively sparsely populated parish.

St Edmunds church is bereft of its tower which collapsed in 1796, the grounds are strangely confined with protective railings preventing much access to the graveyard. Most of the church is from the Early English period indicating a quite early 13th century church. An extensive restoration in the late Victorian period added the bell-tower and generally obscured some of the origins.
