There are two parishes named Hackford within Norfolk, this parish as its qualifier suggests, lies close to the market town of Wymondham. This small rural parish lies mid-way between the market towns of Wymondham and Hingham and a short way south of the B1108 which connects Norwich with Watton, the whole is rather central to Norfolk. The "village" such as it is namely a straggle of houses along the minor road and adjacent lanes has no structure which suggests a nucleated settlement. The farms and cottages lie in an agricultural plateau with cereal and beet fields stretching to the horizons.

St Mary's church sits to the east of the main north-south lane/ Like so many Norfolk churches it is Perpendicular in style and dates from the 14th or 15th century. The doorway, however, shows features which indicate a Norman origin. Again like many Norfolk churches there was a Victorian restoration which masks many of the original features.
