The Independent Congregation of South Creake was founded in 1783, achieving a dedicated chapel by 1799. The congregation, however, always remained small and spread over a wide area of north-western Norfolk. Most of the records, which begin soon after founding, continue up to 1860 with substantial gaps in places. Thereafter only membership lists and burials survive. Two deposits survive from the period of the transcript project. The first a birth and baptismal register which runs from 1786 to 1835 and is deposited with The National Archive as RG4/1968 is copied on Microfilm MF1156 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office The second is a baptismal register running from 1846 to 1860 and is filmed on Microfilm MF1621 in the collection of the Norfolk Record Office. It was from these two films this transcript is produced. The films are of mixed quality the later film being a considerable improvement on the copy of the TNA film. The principal concern was the nonstandard form of the entries and also the quality of handwriting (a common feature of Non-Conformist registers). Despite these constraints this was a straightforward transcript to prepare - throughout the numbering is a counter on the entries and not that of the incumbent.
