The parish of South Creake lies in central northern Norfolk to the north-west of the market town of Fakenham and midway between there and the coastal settlements of Burnham Market et al. The village lies astride the B1355 in the valley of the River Burn which runs through the village. Whilst the settlement is compact the parish is broad in extent with large acreage of broad agricultural plateau to both east and west. In former times these poor stony soils were dominated by sheep runs.

St Mary's church is a large one - the chancel itself is 52 feet long. The church is mixture of styles with both Perpendicular and Decorated features, its origins in the late 13th century, however, are typical for Norfolk churches. The church stands above the village up a narrow pair of lanes and dominates despite its diminutive tower.
