Kittle. He deserted Aug. 6, 1862 (probably to help on the farm - harvest time - as most of his father's family consisted of girls, thus a hardship was created with him in service). He was charged $35, the expense of arrest and transportation. He re-enlisted Jan. 1, 1864, was admitted to Post Hosp., Montgomery, AL, Sep. 26, 1865, and died of "incised wound" at Paducah, KY, Sep. 29, 1865. Upon his death, his father, John H., received his pay from Mar. 1, 1865 to Sep. 29, 1865, date of Daniel's death. The charge of desertion has not been removed. The file also states that his parents were married in Greene Co., OH133. His brother, Orlando Hackett's name was not given in the list of children in his file but he is shown in the census record as a child in this same family70.

03 Elkanah,b. Apr. 2, 1858; 08-00707.
04 Amelia,b. ____ __, ____; n.m.

They were raised at Grand Bend, Ont. and came to MI about 1875. John Hopper, alias John Tingley, married a de Rosa girl and raised a family under the name of Tingley, according to Elmer and Blanche Tingley. Elmer's father, Elkanah 03 above was a half-brother to this John Hopper - alias John Tingley.

Little is known of the three children who never married. They moved to NE in the 1890's where Amelia passed away. Evi went to MT and WY where he was a sheep herder; not heard from since. Franklin went to St. Ignatius, MT, and died there about 1938, and is buried in a cemetery in St. Ignatius, MT140.

Howard Gault, a descendant of John Hopper, alias John Tingley, exchanged pictures and Elmer says, "he sent a picture of Evi Tingley and I have to claim Evi as my uncle, as the pictures are the same and taken about the same time. Frank and Evi's pictures look like twins."

From Howard Gault, "Uncle Evi, as we called him died at about 91 years of age, about 1952 and is buried near my parents in the Wenatchee Cemetery, Wenatchee, Wash. He spent a good share of his last years as a gold prospector in the State of Washington."
