This is the last Will and Testament of me James Caporn a sinner / I give my body into the Chrysalis state that through it I may pass to the Butterfly state of Glory which Jesus is going to prepare for me in Heaven To the worms that they may speedily speak to it of life and those worms ripen this unripe apple there it shall leave all corruption I give my best love to my dear wife Phoebe Caporn all my effects I leave and bequeath to her, the remainder of the lease of my house in Dyers Buildings and my leasehold house No 19 Arnetts Crescent Lower Road Islington for her use and enjoyment for her life and after her death to my daughter Ellen Caporn commanding them to fear God and keep his Commandments who says 'Leave your fatherless children and let your widows trust in me'. Appeared Personally William Edward Newton of No 24 Granville Square Pentonville in the County of Middlesex Gentleman and made oath that his is one of the subscribing witnesses to the last will and testament of James Caporn late of Dyers Buildings Holborn in the City of London Gentleman deceased the said will bearing date the tenth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty six and now hereunto annexed that on the said tenth day of July aforesaid the said deceased duly executed his said will by signing his name at the foot or end thereof in the presence of this deponent and of Emma Newton spinster the other subscribed witness thereto both of whom were present at the same time and this deponent and the said Emma Newton thereupon set and subscribed their names to the said will in the presence of the said deceased and his of each other in manner as now appears and this deponent further saith that having perused the following words "I appoint Phoebe Caporn my wife and my brother William Goode Caporn Executrix and Executor" written immediately above the signature of the said deceased this deponent saith that the aforesaid words were written by the said deceased immediately before he executed his said will as predeposed - W.E. Newton - On the 3rd day of October 1846 the said William Edward Newton was duly sworn to the truth of the foregoing affidavit Before me J. Parker Deane Surr'te [Surrogate]- present G.R. Proved at London 5th October 1846 before the Worshipful James M. Parker Deane Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the oath of Phoebe Caporn Widow the Relict of the deceased one of the executors to whom administration was granted having been first sworn duly to administer power reserved of making the life grant to William Goode Caporn / a minor / the brother of the said deceased the other executor named in the will when he shall attain the age of twenty one years and apply for the same.
