Latest Updates:
(3/2007) Found ancestors of Christiann SMITH TRAVIS, which has been a mysterious dead-end for me for 7 years.
(12/2006)
Researching census data 1860-1920 for all lines. Working particularly on WICKHAM and KERR. Found ancestors of C. L. Carr’s grandmother Julia SCHOONOVER.(8/2006) Found ancestors of Elizabeth Barlow BRADLEY PARSHALL. Her parents are from Fairfield CT and are buried in Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg. Families of Old Fairfield took both their lines back a ways. Researching our Somerset Co., NJ ancestors.
(12/2005) Researching JACOBS family on my Mom’s side.
(8/2005) Found ancestors of Lettice VOORHEES MINOR via the internet, going way back. Some of the most recent ones are buried in Seneca County. Researching locations of homes and businesses of Minors in Interlaken, NY.
(10/2004) Researching HOOKERs in Cayuga County, NY. Found a picture of John HOOKER’s grist mill in Cato, NY and learned it is still standing. Found that John HOOKER the elder was one of first settlers in Cato and son of same name lived in Victory.
(6/2004)
I realized my Thomas HOOKER was a prominent person. I borrowed an out-of-print biography and am scanning it in. Available under "Contents of my Site" above.(5/2001)
We found hundreds of photographs in my grandmother's attic - mostly marked!! Many CARR photos including Claude L. CARR and family, his parents James Gaylord CARR and Adelia TANNER, James' siblings and nieces and home. Adelia's parents William TANNER and Jane GRIFFIN, as well as 3 sisters. But also many MINOR (and ancestors) photos from Nellie TRAVIS, including Don TRAVIS and brother, Nellie's siblings and nephews. Some great photos of Morris MINOR's family, and an unprecedented one of him and siblings pre-teen. Astounding find: Don TRAVIS' 1876 diary (6 months). I have transcribed half - it is amazing. Also his last letter to daughter Nellie. Several unmarked daguerrotypes (aggghhhh!). Small knick-knacks like tie-tacks and hat brush from Don TRAVIS. Also my Dad copied reel-to-reel tapes of MUMFORD-CARR recordings made by Mike MUMFORD in the 70's (oral history, piano and harp playing) onto CD and distributed them to family.(1/2001)
We found David Parshall MINOR's SAR application showing our HOOKER ancestors back to Hezekiah HOOKER. With this I was able to link into HOOKER genealogy online, so have taken this line back to Thomas HOOKER ~1500-1562, with much info also on wives' ancestors as well - a good find. Also received the James PARSHALL book for Christmas and entered much info on Caleb PARSHALL's ancestors. Stumbled on more family photos, with several snapshots of A.V. MINOR's family - we hope to get these identified. I am scanning in MORSE photos from my husband's line.(7/2000)
The below info (5/2000) turned out to be true. Our searches culminated in a visit to the graves of Sylvanus TRAVIS & Hannah RANDALL. We also visited the graves of: Don S. TRAVIS and wife Ada J. BROKAW, Don’s parents John S. TRAVIS and Mary NOBLES, Mary’s parents Squire J. NOBLES and Hannah RUMSEY, and Squire’s and Hannah’s parents. We are pretty certain where John’s parents Stephen and Christie Ann are buried but the cemetery was too overgrown to check. We have possible parents of Sylvanus TRAVIS: Sheurman & Thankful TRAVIS. We found many land records for John, Stephen, and Squire. Visited grave of Caleb H. PARSHALL and found his house in Interlaken. Found the houses (we think) of Squire J. NOBLES, Isaac Newton BROKAW, and A.V. MINOR, and the barn of Don & John TRAVIS. I hope to have a page soon on what we learned of Sylvanus, as many people are interested in this elusive character.(5/2000)
I am hot on the trail of John Smith TRAVIS' ancestors due to the receipt of his father's bible. This info is not in the database yet as it is rather tentative. It seems his parents were Stephen and Christiana (SMITH) TRAVIS, and Stephen's parents seem to be Sylvanus and Hannah (RANDALL ???) TRAVIS. There seem to be several Sylvanus TRAVISes of this period and information on the internet is rather confusing. In any case, his ancestors are not known. John Smith TRAVIS' wife's name seems to be Mary Jane NOBLE. We also received a BROKAW bible with much information, some contradictory. This all due to our visit to Helen MINOR, the generous contributor. My dad and I hope to follow up on this (researching local records, visiting cemetaries) when I am in Interlaken this summer.(1/2000)
I have been corresponding with my Mom's cousin and he has given me lots of information about ancestors of my grandfather PHILLIPS, following lines for ABBOTT, CLARK, COBB, DOMINICK, FORSYTH, GALLUP, HINCKLEY, KELLOGG, PRATT, SAYLES, SPICER, STOCKWELL, WARD, WILLIAMS, and WORKS.(11/99)
I found a web page with information on the GRISWOLD family. C.L. CARR's great-grandmother was Nancy GRISWOLD, so I have entered information taking her line back to John GRESWOLD d.1472 in Rowington, Warwickshire, England. I discovered that Elizabeth NEVIUS' father's name was James and got a few dates there. She is the great-grandmother of A.V. MINOR and mother of Catherine WYCKOFF. Also added basic info on the WICKHAM line, from Christine CARR's mother's side. Hope to flesh it out a bit although this info will not be as complete as what could be found via the WICKHAM family genealogist.(10/99)
Information my grandfather collected about my mother's side of the family makes its debut. I have done some searching to take these lines back but have not had much luck. I have many photos.(8/99)
I've found a lot of information lately with my Dad's help at the libraries of Interlaken, NY and Stonington, CT. We visited the graves of Lt. Thomas MINOR, his wife Grace PALMER and father-in-law Walter PALMER, and we've taken his ancestors back 200 years to Henry MINER, seemingly the first of that name. We've also filled in biographical data around A.V. MINOR's time, including the TRAVIS, PARSHALL and WYCKOFF women who married MINORS. Also, my new baby Andrew makes his appearance in the latest generation.Links to web pages of my ancestry
