According to the 1880 Federal Census, Jacob Reichert was born to Ferdinand and Fredericka Reichert in New York around 1872. It appears that he was the first child born after the family moved to New York from Illinois. Jacob apparently grew up in Queens, New York.

The 1920 Federal Census shows that Jacob, half Irish and half German, married an Irish-born woman, Rose. In 1920, 48 year old Jacob lived with his wife and family on Locust Avenue in Queens, New York. At this point, four sons lived at home: Francis, Harold, Leo and Frederick (?). Interestingly, a record for 24-year old Joseph Reichert is listed immediately after Jacob Reichert on the 1920 census sheet; also, Joseph's infant daughter is named "Rose,' perhaps after his mother. This might suggest that Joseph is another of Jacob's sons.
