With the Vernon Avenue Bridge, spanning Downtown Creek, between Greenpoint and Long Island City, out of commission for at least six months, many of those employed in Long Island City, anxious to reach Long Island City by shortest route, are ferried across the creek. The ferry service is from Greenpoint avenue in motor boats and the fare is 10 cents each way. The service is furnished from Monday to Saturday from 6 A.M. to midnight. The boats are furnished by the Reichert Company. Here is Thomas PEDENE, mate, assisting Mrs. Mary SEKURA of 179 Eagle street, on the boat, while Captain Albert REICHERT looks out the window of the boat. [Source unknown. Date - BEF 1948] |
