The Howe Family of Claranagh, County Fermanagh

Next -->

Occupation

Between the information available in the Griffith’s Valuation and the letters, it is quite clear that the family raised livestock.  It is likely that they also raised crops.  According to the Griffith’s Valuation, while Oliver Howe leased land and a house from Sir Tennent, he rented the house to someone else while farming the land.  This suggests that the Howe’s resided elsewhere (probably nearby).

OS 17/23 16a Oliver Howe rented from Sir James Tennent a house and land, 25 acres 1 rood in the
townland of Claranagh, Tempo, Parish of Enniskillen. Oliver did not live in the house which he sublet to an Anthony Elliot. He did however farm the land."
