William Howe

Next -->

Little is known of William Howe aside from the birth records provided by Reverend Armstrong.  These records show William and his twin Mary, the eldest children, being born 17 November 1843 in Tempo. [1]  There are some suggestions that William may have immigrated to New York, perhaps paving the way for his sister who later made her way to the City.  It is clear that he is not living at home in Claranagh, as his name is not among those listed at the close of each letter.  The letters do, however, mention William.  In one letter, their Father writes,

“We are sorry to hear of Willie and that he has lost one of his children.  We hope he is better before this.”[2]

A later letter speaks of Mary “going to keep hours for your Brother.”[3]  In another letter dated 8 March 1888, their parents write, “We are glad to hear of William and wife and family been well.  We wonder that he never writes to us.”[4]
