Mary Ann Hunter

Records show that Oliver’s wife was Mary Ann Hunter. According to her death notice in the St. Thomas Times-Journal (August 27, 1936, page 16) Mary Ann Hunter "was born at Cayuga on April 2, 1860, and had resided in Port Rowan before going to Lawrence Station [Elgin County, Ontario] 45 years ago [circa 1891]. Her parents were the late Samuel and Edna^ Hunter . Mrs. Howe was a member of the United Church." The 1901 Canadian Census shows her place of birth as Ontario; she is listed as being “Scotch.”

In 1881, 21 year old Mary Ann Hunter lived with her parents in Walsingham, Norfolk South. Samuel and Edna Hunter are shown as having 4 children: Mary Ann Hunter (21), Ira Hunter(19), Edward S. Hunter (8) and William C. Hunter (6). This document shows Samuel as being born in Ontario and Methodist. His wife Edna was apparently born in England. She and the children are listed as Episcopal Methodist.
