At 11:10 PM, October 30, 1941 an American Airlines aircraft enroute from Buffalo to Chicago to Detroit crashed on the Howe farm. According to the official investigation records "The aircraft, on a flight from New York to Chicago, circled a wooden area 3 or 4 times looking for a landing spot before stalling and diving into a plowed field. Cause unknown." Twenty-one people (17 passengers and 3 crew) perished in the crash.
