Thompson Howe was born to Oliver & Mary Ann (Hunter) Howe on Nov 19 1892 (his headstone) or 24 March 1892 (the 1901 Canadian Census). According to his death notice, "he was born on a farm on Gore Road... [and] farmed all his life at R.R. 1, Southwold. He was a member of the Lawrence Station United Church and assistant superintendent of the Sunday school. Thompson & Viola (Squire) Howe

Records show that Thompson married Viola Margaret Squire.  Viola was born “…December 18, 1906 in Ekfrid Township/Glencoe, daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Lawrence) Squire, she lived in the area most of her life.”[1]  According to her death notice, “formerly living in Shedden, she taught school at S.S. # 17, Southwold, and farmed locally for many years.  She was a member of Lawrence Station United Church, the United Church Women and the Kensington Club.”

According to a member of the Elgin County Message Board, "The heavily wooded Lawrence area was settled in the 1830's and when the railway came through in 1872 William Lawrence donated ten acres from his farm for a depot. As it happened, his son Samuel Lawrence was killed in a sawmill accident at the age of 24 leaving a daughter, Margaret, who married Walter Squire of Glencoe. [Margaret and Walter's] daughter became Mrs. Thompson Howe!"
