Percy Covington Ponder was born 22 December 1896 in Reilly Springs, Hopkins County, Texas. He was living in his father's house and working on the farm when he registered for the service of his country on 15 June 1918 (World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918).

Percy married Ethel Stinson 18 January 1920 in Hunt County, Texas (Vol: U p: 83). She was the daughter of Samuel Seth Stinson and Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" Wright. Ethel was born 09 March 1903 in Delta County, Texas.

Percy Covington Ponder died 01 August 1973 in Hopkins County, Texas.
Ethel Stinson Ponder died 08 February 1998 in Hopkins County, Texas.

They are buried in Greenpond Cemetery in Hopkins County, Texas.
Their infant who died 13 April 1930 is buried beside them.

Percy Ponder

    Final rites for Percy Covington Ponder, 76, Route 1, Como, were held at the Greenpond Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m Thursday, with the Rev. Carl Acker and the Rev. James Warren officiating. Interment followed in Greenpond Cemetery, with nephews serving as pallbearers.
    Mr. Ponder, a retired A. P. Green Fire Brick Company and farmer, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Hospital.
    He was born Dec. 23, 1896 in Hunt County, son of Frank and Nobie Whatley Ponder. He was married to Miss Ethel Stinson in Hopkins County Jan. 18, 1920.
    Surviors include his wife, a son,
(Living) ; a daughter, (Living); four brothers, Fred Ponder of Sherley, Robert Ponder of Commerce, Duval Ponder of Reilly Springs, and John Ponder of Massachusetts; a sister, Mrs. Carl Starett of Sulphur Springs, and two grandsons.
    Tapp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Stinson Ponder    
   Funeral services for Ethel Stinson Ponder, 94, of the Greenpond community will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb, 10 in Greenpond Baptist Church will the Revs. Michael Coker and David Fortner oficiating.
   Burial will follow in Greenpond Cemetery with Pat Bowen, Jimmy Don Burns, Jerry Cook, Travis Cook, Pat Flora and J. D. Ponder serving as pallbearers.
   Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m Monday at West Oaks Funeral Home.   
   Mrs. Ponder died at 11:45 a. m., Sunday,  Feb. 8, in Sulphur Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.
   She was born March 9, 1903, in Delta County, the daughter of Sam S. and Maggie Wright Stinson.She married Percy Ponder in 1919 in Hopkins County. He prededed her in death in 1973.
   Mrs. Ponder was a homemaker and long-time member of Greenpond Baptist Church. She had resided most of her life in Hopkins County.

       Survivors include a son, (living) of the Greenpond community; a daughter, (Living) of Como; one brother, Rayford Stinson of Como; two sisters, Mozelle Gillem and Arline Flora, both of the Greenpond Community; four grandchildren, (living), and two great-grandchildren, (Living).
   She was also preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Stinson and six sisters, Mae Perkins, Jewell Curry, Bonnie Barrett, Rudine Cook, Cleo Acker and Ivo Teer. Memorials may be made to Greenpond Cemetery Association, Route 1, Como, Texas 75431
