Frankie Ray McGinnis
04 April 1929 - 26 February 2009
Frankie Ray and I communicated via e-mail in 2008 - 2009. He had moved to Bangkok, Thailand so his wife could be near her family. Following is what he wrote concerning his adoption.
Let me set the stage; Pauline and Tom came to the orphanage to get me in 1933, I was four years old. They came with my new Uncle Ray Morgan in his Coupe. Dad never trusted himself to drive in Dallas and to my knowledge he never did. I moved Mother's straw hat from the ledge high up behind the seats of the car in order to have a place to ride. It was warm weather (straw hat) so it must have been after my April 4th birthdate. I try to forget my birthday with no luck, don't worry that you missed it. My father; Richard Stoughton, Richard Jr., Lucille, Hazel, Jack, John, me and Billy. Family did not talk about mother I don't even know her name. She had gone someplace and dad had a house full of kids in the early 30s. Neighbors complained, welfare in Dallas county took all the kids. Having recently moved from Cleveland for construction work, dad had a rough time. He said that he would come home from work, stopping for groceries on the way home. He would put a loaf of bread on the table and by the time he had cooked something, we had eaten the loaf of bread. John, myself and Billy were all adopted. We were place by a Mrs. Carson. The rest of the family eventually got back with dad. Richard Jr. joined the Navy and retired after thirty years. Lucille became a commercial artist and worked for a while with the Dallas Morning News, she retired after 20 years doing layouts for Sears. Hazel joined the WAC and got a pilots license, she was a "Link Trainer Instructor" during the war (2) for the army air corps. Jack was in the military but I never knew what branch. I spent some time with Richard Jr. while I was in the Navy school in San Francisco. Jack was adopted by the Reagan family, (rancher in the Lubbock area), I had a visit with him after he was married when I moved back to Dallas. Had a lot of interaction with Lucille through the years, she seemed the only one interested in keeping everyone in touch. I taught Hazel to drive a car in the 50s so she could get a driver's license. Billy was adopted by a family in Saltillo, Tex. and grew up within 30 miles of Star Ridge without me knowing him. The family(I believe Williams) contacted Pauline to tell her that Billy had been killed in Korea. He may be in a cemetery in Saltillo, I don't know. Jack was a pilot working at crop dusting (to pay for rental, working on twin engine rating) when he hooked a power line near Bridgeport, Tex. on Easter Sunday two days before my third child was born. Mother Stoughton stayed in the Dallas area for years, she would contact the others for money or what ever from time to time. Jack had one son that died of cancer in his early 20s Richard Jr., Lucille had no children. Hazel had one son. Later, Frankie Ray |
Frankie Ray checked into the Royal Thai Police Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. He passed away on February 26, 2009. His funeral was held during March 1-2. He is buried at the Baptist Church Cemetery in Nakornpathom Province. It's about 80 kilometers away from Bangkok. It is in the middle of Thailand.
