Up goes a tree
I've been told not to climb,
(oh, I'm sure!)



and on go the shiny things
I'm not supposed
to play with.
(Right.)



It's happening again --
The doorbell's ringing
With guests arriving,
And they'll all be piling their coats
On the bed where I like to sleep.
(How inexpressibly tacky.)



It's happening again --
I'm being plied
With choice little tidbits
And given tempting new toys.
(Hmmmmmm.)



Perhaps I could be
A little forgiving . . .
Just maybe . . . in a while . . .
