According to Cheryl Brown, Williams parents are James Nance and Elizabeth White. However Sueann Morrow states that William's parents are Jeremiah Nance, b between 1745-1765 and Sara Smith. Yet another person states that William's parents William R. Nance, Sr., b. 7 June 1788 and Mary Johnstone, b. 29 April 1794.

So who are William's parents? He was the son of James Nance and Elizabeth White. William Nance married Martha Ann Pryor on 21 December 1841 at Lincoln Co., North Carolina. William Nance died in 1864 at Gordonsville, Orange Co., Virginia.
