Doris I. Dellinger was born on 17 November 1910. She was the daughter of Paul E. Dellinger and Carrie Malverna Hannigan. Doris I. Dellinger died on 5 April 1919 at York Co., Pennsylvania, at age 8. She was New Tag Obituary from a April 7th, 1919 York newspaper:

" FATALLY RUN DOWN IN SIGHT PARENTS

East Prospect Child Darts Across Street and is Caught By Automobile

PURELY AN ACCIDENT

In plain view of her father, mother and brother, little eight-year-old, Doris I. Dellinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dellinger, of East Prospect, was run down and fatally injured by an automobile on the Duke street side of the Guardian Trust company building shortly after five o'clock Saturday evening. She died in the York hospital less than two hours later with a fractured skull and internal injuries. The machine which ran her down was a Chevrolet, operated by Miss Edith Kurtz, of Stewartstown. It was purely an accident and was due to the child suddenly darting in front of Miss Kurtz's auto.

The parents, as well as Miss Kurtz are prostrated with grief. Mr. Dellinger begged the police not to cause Miss Kurtz any trouble for he declared that he saw it all and that she was in no way to blame, also that both he and she had trouble enough as it was.

Mr. Dellinger, in company with his wife and son and daughter had come to town Saturday afternoon and he parked his machine on the east side of Duke street, and started off to transact some business, leaving Mrs. Dellinger and the children in the machine to wait his coming. The little girl wanted to go with him, but he told her to stay with her mother. Scarely had he reached the western side of Duke street, however, when he saw the child jump off the running board and dart across the street toward him. At this moment Miss Kurtz, who was accompanied by Kenneth Gemmill and his sister, Miss Mildred Gemmill, both of Cross Roads, had been weaving her way through the traffic at Market and Duke streets and was driving south on Duke street. She had slowed down especially to let a touring car pass eastward on Market street and when her machine had reached a point about fifty feet south of Market street the driver was horrified to see a little girl run in front of her machine.

Too Late

She made frantic afforts to stop, but it was too late. The auto knocked the child down with the right fender and the right front and rear wheels passed over her body before the car could be stopped. Kenneth Gemmill jumped out of Miss Kurtz's machine and picked up the child, while Miss Gemmill ran to hunt a doctor. The little one was carried to the office of Dr. R. E. Butz, where after a hasty examination the physician ordered her sent to the hospital. Motorcycle Officer Riley, who was present at the moment, ordered out the city ambulance for the purpose. On the way to the hospital the child was apparently conscious and she groaned with pain. A hole had been crushed in her forehead, producing a fractured skull and her abdomen had been badly injured. She died at 6:45 of concussion of the brain.

The police made an investigation and took the testimony of a number of eyewitnesses, all of whom declared that Miss Kurtz's auto was going quite slowly and that the accident was entirely unavoidable. Among the witnesses were J.E. Bortner, R.D. No. 1, Glen Rock; W.J. McPherson and Mrs. W.J. Martin, both of Muddy Creek Forks, and David Kline, East Prospect. Mayor Hugentugler, Chief Buttorff and Sergeant Free received their statements, as well as the statement of Dellinger, the bereaved father, and they were perfectly satisfied that no blame attached to Miss Kurtz, and she was permitted to go.

Besides her parents, Doris I. Dellinger is survived by two brothers, Chester Elwood and Donald Burchard Dellinger. She was aged 8 yeas, 4 months and 18 days. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning in East Prospect."
On 7 April 1919 at York Co., Pennsylvania. She was buried on 8 April 1919 at East Prospect Cemetery, East Prospect, York Co., Pennsylvania; Funeral announcement for a 8 April 1919 York newspaper:

"AUTO VICTIM BURIED
