Welcome to the Thorn(e) Family Organisation UK Site. We hope you find our genealogical research of interest to you.

We started our family history research in 1998, at that time we knew very little about our family roots. We have been amazed to find that we are both descended from families that have lived within a few miles of each other over the last 200+ years. By an accident of fate we have returned to live in the area where those descendants once lived out their lives.

Background

Our Thorn line is descended from Richard Thorn and Elizabeth Provis. They married at Billington Parish Church, Bedfordshire, England on 23 March 1712/13. Richard Thorn was probably born around 1684 in Buckinghamshire, England. Elizabeth Provis was probably born about 1688 in Weedon, Buckinghamshire. As with all genealogy research - work continues, it is hoped that Richard's place of origin will be found.

Later descendants of this Thorn family moved to Buckland which is located in the countryside near to Aston Clinton, Tring and Aylesbury. They then moved short distances in to the Chiltern Hills, to the villages of Buckland Common, Cholesbury and Hawridge. From those roots the family has spread to many towns and villages in Buckinghamshire. My own family hails from Watford in Hertfordshire.

We are now researching all the Thorn(e) families in England, particularly those with Buckinghamshire (Bucks.) connections. We are finding that many of these families in Bucks. can be joined.

Our Mission

"To become knowledgeable about the origins and life histories of all the Thorn(e) families past and present particularly in the UK; to record that information and make it available for the enlightenment and enjoyment of current and future generations".
