The Hilliard Thompson Controversy
The Hilliard Thompson's of Walton County Georgia may hold a clue to discovering the relationship between several THOMPSON lines who migrated to Walton County after 1810 from North Carolina, South Carolina and perhaps Virginia.
The name Hilliard is a blessing in that it is not as common as the other THOMPSON names in our family line such as Charles, John, James, Thomas, and William. Hilliard is easier to spot in a database than those other names. But other problems have arisen concerning Hilliard. There are different accounts on origin and pedigree.

The Thomas B. Thompson is not the brother to Seaborn and Hilliard as none of the spouses or parents names match. These are apparently cousins of the Charles Thompson line. A common ancestor would likely be a brother or father of our Charles Sr. mentioned in the will of 1795 S.C.

Three families moved to Walton County, Georgia. One had an ancestor named James
who was born about 1720. Another had an ancestor named Abraham born about 1719.
Another had a son named Alexander born about 1740. It is not unreasonable to
think that they were brothers.
