Clara Maud(e) B. Hart (Hord?) (-2G)
mother-in-law to our aunt (paternal side)
The (-1G), etc., after the names indicates the number of generations before Erven Thoma. No record of this family has been found in the 1900 or 1910 Fed. Census Soundex card index. Perhaps they were in Argentina, which is where their first son, John Harland, was born 16 Dec. 1909. They returned to the U. S. in time for their second child, Elmer P. (Jr) to be born ca June 1915 in Missouri. The 1920 Fed. Census for Missouri (T625_958, enum. dist. 548, sheet 4B, lines 79-82, dated 03 January) lists John Harland, his parents, and his brother living at 5118a North Market St. in the 27th ward of the city of St. Louis. His father, Elmer P. McBroom is 45, born in Missouri, father born in Missouri, mother born in Illinois. He is an general electrician, wage worker. He is able to read, write, and speak English. John Harland's mother, Maud, is 36, born in Tennessee, father born in Ohio, mother born in Tennessee. She is able to read, write, and speak English. She has no occupation. John Harland himself is listed as merely "J. Harland". He is 9 years old, born in Argentina, father born in Missouri, mother born in Tennessee. He is attending school. John's brother, Elmer P. Jr. is 4 years, 6 months old and was born in Missouri of a father born in Missouri and a mother born in Tennessee. They are renting the house. The 1930 Census for Missouri (T626_1246, supv. dist. 8, enum. dist. 257, written p. 1A, stamped p. 249, dwelling 7, family 10, lines 37-40, dated 02 Apr.) shows the Elmer McBroom family renting at 1328 Goodfellow Ave. in St. Louis for $40/month. Elmer P. McBroom, 56 years old, born ca. 1873 in Missouri, was married at age 38. His father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Missouri. He is an electrician in the building and trade business field. His wife, Maude C. is 43 years, born in Tennessee. She was married at age 25 and has no occupation. Her father was born in Ohio and her mother in Tennessee. Their son Elmer (Jr) is 14, born ca. 1915. He was born in Missouri; his father in Missouri and his mother in Tennessee. Their son Harland is marked as absent [because he is living elsewhere--see below.] but informatio is given for him. He is single, 18 years old, born in Argentina, and he has no occupation. His father was born in Missouri and his mother in Tennessee. In the 1930 Census for Missouri, son John Harland appears in a hospital [where he was being paid to test drugs]. There is some evidence that Elmer and his wife Faye (2nd wife?) were living in Mena, AR in the 40's. I have a postcard from his daughter-in-law Alberta, dated 28 June 1944, which refers to visiting "Dad and Faye" having a house at the location pictures on the face of the card.(Mena, AR). "Dad" cannot be her own father who is living in St. Louis, so it must be her father-in-law. To support this, Alberta mentions that Elton (Elmer Jr?) and his family (Vera, Maureen, and Sharon) are also visiting there. -------------------- Her husband Elmer died on 09 Nov. 1951 in Sevier County in Utah at the age of 79. His death is listed in the Utah Death Index. 1905-1951 (state file no. 1951004421). Her son John Harland died in June 1975 in Georgetown, Guyana. Her son Elmer died after June 1975.
