Erven Fredrick Sandherr (-1G)
Born before Erven was a sister, Ethel Sandherr (-1G), on 4 Sep 1900 at which time the family was living at 2210 Warren.in St. Louis. - - - - - - - - - - from his birth (Sep. 1902) until his marriage (ca 1928) - - - - - - - - - - His middle name was taken from his father. His first name was taken from his uncle Erven Thake, as was mine.
There was a H. S. Sandherr who died at the age of only 3 days and was buried on 25 Oct. 1904 in the Sandherr lot in Friedens Cemetery in north St. Louis County. He/she is listed in the St. Louis Public Library Obituary Index. He/she might have been a sibling of Erven Sandherr. A living relatice recalls that someone told them that a infant brother to Erven died early. The 1910 Fed. Census for Missouri (Apr. 1910 ) shows Erven, his parents and sister. His mother is 36 years old, born in Missouri and is the housekeeper. His father is 43? years old and is a machinist in a machine shop. They have been married 10 years. Sister Ethel is 9 years old, born in Missouri. Erven is 7 years old, born in Missouri. They are living at 3814a Greer Ave. in St. Louis, the same building as his mother Sibylla's parents. Downstairs we find Sibilla's parents and sister. We also find two boys, George Vossler (19) [-2G] and Lawrence Vossler (18) [-2G]. They are brothers to each other and nephews of Sibilla's mother, Johanna Vossler. They are orphaned sons of one of the brothers of Johanna: Theodore Vossler and his wife Frances Schloemer who died in 1893 and 1904 respectively. The 1910 St. Louis Directory lists his father, a machinist, living at 3814 Greer Ave.
The 1913 St. louis Directory shows Frederick H. Sandherr (Am. Auto Repair Co., 3144 Locust), living at 3814 Greer Ave. The St. Louis Directory of 1915 shows his father living at 3814 Greer Ave. The 1916 Directory shows the same information as in 1913. The 1917 Directory has Frederick H. Sandherr, machinist, living at 3814 Greer Ave. The 1918 Directory has Fredk. H. Sandherr, mgr [manager] of American Auto Repair Co., living at 3814 Greer Ave. His sister, Ethel, died of appendicitis on 16 Mar. 1918 in St. Louis and was buried in Frieden's Cemetery in north St. Louis County on 19 Mar. (1918 or 1919?).. He appears in the 1920 Fed. Census for Missouri taken on 5 January (ward 21, enum. district 419, sheet 4, line 53). He is living at 3814 Greer Ave. with his father (53) and mother (46), downstairs from his grandparents Eugene Charles Thake* (-3G) and Johanna S. Vossler* (-3G) and their daughter (his aunt) Cecilia Thake (-2G). Erven Sandherr is 17 at this time and was born in Missouri. His parents were both born in Missouri but their parents were born in Germany. His father is a machinist in an auto repair shop. His mother is the housekeeper. Ethel is not listed because she had died before 1920. In the 1922 St. Louis City Directory we see listed his father, a machinist, living at 3814 Greer Ave. The 1925 Directory has a separate listung for Erven Sandherr, student, living at 3814 Greer Ave. The 1926 City Directory shows Ervin Sandherr living at 3814 Greer Ave. [no occupation.] There are no related Sandherr households in the 1926 County Dir. The Phi Mu Delta Fraternity lists Erven F. Sandherr, 1927 graduate of the University of Illinois, as one of its members. Their web page lists him as a lost alumni and requests information on him. I contacted them. He married ca 1928 to Hulda Kerkmann. The St. Louis City Hall has no marriage records for a Sandherr wedding in 1932-35. - - - - - - - - - - from his marriage (ca 1928) until his death (Apr. 1968) - - - - - - - - - - There is no Sandherr listed in the 1928 St. Louis City Directory nor in the 1930 County Dir. The 1930 Fed. Census for Missouri (roll T626_1237, enum. dist. 58, supv. dist. 8, page 9B, dwelling 82, family 188, lines 83-84) lists an Irven [sic!] Sandherr, 28 years old, born in Missouri, parents also born in Missouri. He is boarding at 3832? Washington Ave. in ward 17, block 4585. He is a telegraph operator. Also living there is his wife Hulda, also 28 years old and born in Missouri, but parents born in Germany. Hulda is an operator in a beauty parlor. They both married at age 26, i.e. about 2 years before. The head of household and owner of the $20,000 home is Lawrence Schapp and his wife Faye who are no relation to Erven or his wife, as far as I know. Both families own a radio set. All four are not in school, but they read, write, and speak English. The Ancestry.Com 1930 Census index database has "Irene" instead of the spelling "Irven" found on the actual census sheet image.
They had a child in 1936. His S.S.# was 489-03-8397 issued in MO in Nov. 1936. At that time Erven and his family were living at 1606 Big Bend Road in Richmond Heights, MO (a suburb of St. Louis). He was working in the the Long Lines Dept. of AT&T located at 1010 Pine St. in St. Louis, MO. He is 34 years old at this time. The St. Louis City Dir. of 1936 shows Erven F. (Hulda) Sandherr, employee at A. T & T Co., residing in Richmond Heights. The St. Louis County Dir. of 1936 shows Erven F. Sandherr (Hulda), clerk, with a home at 7454 Harter Ave. in Richmond Heights. The 1937 St. Louis Directory shows Ervin F. Sandherr (with wife Hulda) employed at AT&T Co. and living in Richmond Heights (no specific address is given, but probably at 1606 Big Bend Rd.).

Sandherr (with wife Hulda), employed at AT&T Co., and living in Richmond Heights (no specific address given, but probably at 1606 Big Bend Rd.). The St. Louis County Directory of 1939 shows Erven F. Sandherr, with wife Hulda, a clerk, living at 1606 Big Bend Blvd in Richmond Heights. The County Dir. of 1941 shows Erven F. Sandherr, with wife Hulda, a clerk for AT&T, living at 1606 Big Bend Rd. in Richmond Heights. The 1942 City Dir. (Gould's) shows E. F. (Hulda) Sandherr, clerk at AT & T, residing at 1606 Big Bend Rd. (Richmond Heights). The 1943 County Dir. lists Erven F. Sandherr, with wife Hulda K., a clerk, living at 1606 Big Bend Blvd. in Richmond Heights. The 1944 St. Louis City Dir. lists Erven F. Sandherr (Hulda), clerk for AT&T, with a home in Richmond Heights (no specific address). The 1946 City Dir. shows Erven F. (Hulda) Sandherr, clerk at AT&T, residing in Richmond Heights. The 1946 County Dir. (Polk) lists Erven F. (Hulda K) Sandherr with a home at 1606a Bellevue Ave. in Richmond Heights. The 1947-48 St. Louis City Dir. shows Erven F. Sandherr (Huldah), tech assist. for AT&T, with a residence in Richmond Heights . No specific address is given. The 1949 County Dir. (Polk) shows Erven F. (Hulda K.) Sandherr, dept. engineering at AT&T, home at 1606a Bellerive Ave., Richmond Heights. His mother Sibylla Thake (-2G) died 21 Feb. 1950 in St. Louis? She was buried in Friedens Cemetery in north St. Louis County on the 24th. His father Frederick Henry Sandherr (-2G) died 18 Jan. 1951 in St. Louis and was cremated. His ashes were buried in the Sandherr lot of Friedens Cemetery on 19 Feb. At the time of his father's death, Erven was living at 1003 Curran in Kirkwood The St. Louis County Directory of 1955 lists Erven F. Sandherr, with wife Hulda K., a tech. assistant for AT&T, living at 1449 Collins Ave. in Richmond Heights. He and his family moved from St. Louis to Kansas City, MO in 1955. He worked for AT&T and was transfered there. On 15 Dec. 1967 his wife, Hulda Kerkmann, had a fatal heart attack while shampooing her hair at her home in Kansas City. She was 66 years, 2-1/2 months old. She was cremated; her ashes were buried in the Sandherr lot in Friedens Cemetery in north St. Louis County on 28 Feb. 1968. He died on 24 Apr. 1968; his body was cremated. I do not know how his ashes were handled but they were not buried in Friedens Cemetery. His age was 65 years and 7 months. At his death his residence was in Zip code 64138 in Kansas City, Jackson County, MO. He was survived by one child, as well as cousins and grandchildren.
