*The asterisk marks direct-line ancestors. The (-3G), etc., after the names represents the number of generations before Erven Thoma

His father, Michael Vossler (-4G), immigrated on 01 May 1854 along with his father's mother, 2 brothers of his father, and the wife of one brother. August's father, Michael, was a brother to Christoph Gottfried Vossler (-4G), one of my great-great-grandfathers.

Ancestry.Com puts August's parents' marriage in 1867 and FamilySearch.Org has 1856. I believe the earlier date (1856) is correct because of the birthdates of August and his brother Edward M. Vossler (-3G).

I believe his brother is Edward M. Vossler (-3G) born earlier in June 1856

    - - - - - from his birth (ca 1854) until his marriage (Nov. 1885) - - - - -

August was also called "Gussy" or "Gustav".

In the 1866 St. Louis Directory his father is a cabinet maker at George Frank at the noth side of Warren, between 18th and 19th. Michael is not listed in 1867. In 1868 Michael is a carpenter at A. D. Seaman & Co. and is living at 1016 Brooklyn. In the 1869 Directory Michael is a cabinet maker for Vossler & Spiess at 810 W. Brooklyn and is living at 1016 W. Brooklyn.

I have not found the relevant 1870 Census yet.

In the Directories of 1870 and 71 he is a cabinet maker living at 1016 Brooklyn. There is no Vossler listing in the 1872 Directory. The 1873 and 74 Directories list Michael Vossler as still living at 1016 Brooklyn.

His father died before 1879. I do not know where he was buried. In the St. Louis Directory of 1879 we see Mary Vossler listed. She is the widow of Michael living with Edward at 1417 Salisbury.

The 1880 Fed. Census for St. Louis, Missouri, First Enumeration (T9_723, FHL 1254723, supv. dist. 1, enum. dist. 124, page 451C, hand-entered p. 35, dated 12 June, Ancestry.Com image 0483) has August, his brother and his mother living in St. Louis. His mother Mary is 40 and is divorced. She and her parents were born in Prussia.

The 1880 Census for St. Louis, Missouri, Second Enumeration (T9-0733, p. 567a, 2nd enumeration) has Edward M. Vossler, 23 years old, born in 1857 in St. Louis. With him is his mother (or step-mother?), Mary Vossler, age 40, born in Germany and a brother Gussie (August?), age 16, born in Missouri.

August L. Vossler married Gusta (Augusta) Bloebaum in Cook County, IL on 19 Nov. 1885. But their first child, Edward Frederick Vossler, was born on 4 Oct. 1885 in Illinois, presumably in Cook County.

    - - - - - from his marriage (Nov. 1885) until his death (Apr. 1899) - - - - -

The St. Louis Directory of 1886 shows an August Vossler, porter, living at 2408 N. 15th St. The 1887 Directory shows August, laborer, living at 1303 Warren.

Daughter Stella Louise Lina Vossler (-2G) was born on 05 Jan. 1888. She was baptized, presumably at Independent Congregational Church, with godparents Louise Vossler and Lina Bloebaum. She died on 25 Mar. in the same year. Her funeral may have been held at Independent Congregational. (See the church's death records for 1888, entry #60, p. 529.). But the St. Louis Death records lists a Stella L. Vossler who died on 26 Feb. 1896 with an address of 2316 N. Market.

The 1890 Directory shows August, china, living at 4104 Easton Ave. The 1891 Dir. shows the same information.

Records at the St. Louis County Library show a Walter Wm. Daniel Vossler who died on 07 Dec. 1891 at 4104 Easton Ave. when less than 1 year old. He was born in St. Louis and was buried in New Picker's Cemetery. Probably he was a son of August and Augusta since he was living at the same address..

The 1892 Dir. has the same info and adds his middle initial "L.". The 1893 Dir. shows August L. Vossler, stoves, living at 3869 Garfield Ave.

Son Oliver was born ca. Oct. 1893.

The 1894 Dir. has August L. Vossler, tin, living at 3869 Garfield Ave. The 1895 Dir. has him as stove rep., living at 2530 Belle Glade Dr.

There is an Oliver Vossler in the St. Louis Death Registry (vol. 33, p. 89; RDSL 42; MO Archives C 10398; SLGS roll 327). He died on 08 Mar. 1896 while living at 2316 North Market which is where the August Vossler family was living at the time. Probably Oliver was a young son of August and Augusta. According to that death registry Oliver was 2 years, 5 months old at death.

The 1896 Dir. has August L. Vossler, tin, living at the rear of 2316 North Market. The same information appears in 1897.

Daughter Anita Vossler (-2G) was born ca. 1897 in Missouri

The 1898 Dir. has August L. Vossler, tin, living at 1412 N. 20th. He is not listed in the 1899 Directory.

There is a death/burial notice or obituary in the St. Louis Post Dispatch of 30 Apr. 1899 on p. 24. He died on the 29th. In the St. Louis City Death Records, 1850-1908, we find (on p. 353 of vol. 38) an August Vossler who died on 29 Apr. 1899. He was living at what looks like 7412 N. 20th, but could be 1412 which agrees with the address in the 1898 St. Louis Directory. His birth place and burial cemetery is not given (MO Archives C10403; SLGS rolls 330; County Lib. RDST 47). Records in the St. Louis County Library show he was 24 years old at death, he was born in St. Louis, and he was buried in New Picker's Cemetery.

    ------------------------

His widow, Augusta, is listed in the 1900 St. Louis City Directory as the widow of August, living at 1412 N. 20th. She is also listed in the Directories of 1901-04 as the widow of August or Gustav. She appears in the 1920 Census with her son Edward. She appears in the St. Louis County Directory of 1939 as the widow of August, living at 8003 St. Charles Rock Rd. in Wellston (or Normandy), MO. Her (step?) son Edward and his wife are living with her. She died on 30 Sep. 1954 in Overland, MO and was buried in Old Pickers Cemetery in St. Louis on 04 Oct At that time she was living with her son Edward at 2306 Hood in Oakland..

Edward F. Vossler (-2G) married Elizabeth Katherine Helm (-2G), but I do not have the date or place. They had at least one child, Herbert Vossler (-1G), born ca. 1910. Edward applied for a Social Security card (#496-36-1684) in 1951 and 1952. At some point this family moved to Los Angeles, California. His last residence was in Temple City, Los Angeles, CA (Zip Code 91780). Elizabeth applied for a Social Security card (#564-21-5674) in 1973. Her last residence was in Arcadia, Los Angeles, CA (Zip Code 91006). Both the parents passed away in the Los Angeles area, Edward on 23 Nov. 1973 and Elizabeth on 09 Nov. 1981. I have no other information on Herbert; nor do I know if they had any other children.

Edward F. Vossler (-2G) appears in the 1920 Census for Missouri (vol. 105, enum. dist. 199, sheet 2, lines 98). He is 34, born in Illinois. His wife, Elizabeth, is 31 and was born in Missouri. Their son, Herbert is 10, born in Missouri. Anita, the unmarried sister of Edward, is 23, born in Missouri. Augusta, the mother of Edward, is 56, born in Missouri. Doris Bloebaum, Edward's grandmother, is 77, born in Prussia and naturalized. Virginia Potteiger, a niece to Edward, is 8, born in Missouri. Edward appears in the St. Louis County Directory of 1939, with his wife Elizabeth and his (step?) mother at 8003 St. Charles Rock Rd. in Wellston, MO. He is a grocer at this time.

I do not know if daughter Anita married or had children. Also, I do not know when and where she died.
