Private John Sanders, a blacksmith by trade, was born in Randolph County, NC
in 1822.  At an early age he moved to Jackson County, Alabama.  There, in
Larkinsville, on 27 Aug 1862 he enlisted in Co. D of the 3rd Ohio Cavalry.
His military record indicates he was 5'10" tall with a light complexion, had
brown eyes and red hair.

He died 11 August 1896 and is buried in Mill Creek Cemetery near Skyline,
Jackson County, Alabama.
