Inventory of Available Records
Each CD is a compilation of
the actual images of the listed records. They are exact replicas of the original records. All
records were digitally enhanced where needed, and converted to .pdf images to provide ease of
viewing. Adobe Acrobat Reader is the ideal viewer for this medium. The free
reader is included on the CD. When you place the CD in the computer, it
auto opens and searches for Adobe Acrobat Reader. If it does not find the Adobe
Acrobat Reader, it will install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader and then go to the
introductory page of the CD.

Shafer Brothers Funeral Home records are contained in nine books that cover the
years January 1885 through July 1919. Each book has been scanned front to back
and placed on it's own CD.
The first eight books are recorded in a funeral home ledger. The ninth book is
recorded in a type of business ledger. Some of the books contain inserts,
paper that was glued into the original book, to lengthen the book. There is an
original index in the front of each book. There are times when a page is missing
and there are times when the funeral sequence for each year has been numbered
incorrectly. The books are very old and in fragile condition. It took a great
deal of time to scan each book carefully and not damage the original record.
Therefore, some of the pages are not as straight as I would have preferred, but
the information is clearly visible. These compilations of Shafer Funeral Home
books are exact replicas of the original books.
Also available on CD:
Johann Funeral Home Registers 1896 & 1901: 622 persons
The actual images of these two registers, of the Johann
Funeral Home, give varied information about the deceased. The record
usually lists person who ordered the funeral, age, disease, date of death, place of burial,
type of coffin, and price. The second page of the record has a break down
of the costs and special notes in the remarks column. The compilation includes indexes to each register.
1858 Evansville City Directory
A valuable resource for those researching Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., IN before the Civil War.
This directory contains a short history of the city, it's location,
improvements, growth, business and commercial position. I found this history to
be a good insight into the Evansville of this era. Churches, libraries, officers
of fraternal organizations, city and county officials are listed. The last 79
pages contain business advertisements. Some pages contain full page ads, however
many of them contain two to three business advertisements; all of these add a
great deal of information about the availability of goods and services to the
residents of this growing city.
