According to Sharon Sue Stine: In October of 1842, George and Catherine moved to Denmark Twp., Lee Co., IA with their two very young sons. George and Catherine both died "of disease" not long after coming to Lee County. They were there long enough to buy land in section 17 and 20, of Lee Co., IA. Their funeral services were preached together, on 23 April 1843^, at Otterbein Chapel, Reading Township, Perry Co., Ohio. Probably after Jacob and Elizabeth arrived in Lee Co., IA to accept guardianship of their two grandsons.

Dwelling - Family 1394 - 1365
Elizabeth Stine is living with the family of John Houtz and Mary Ann Stine Houtz [her daugheter] her age is listed as 60, when in fact she is 70 years old. Jacob Stine age 17, occupation engineer also listed with this household. I believe this Jacob to be Jacob Heck, son of George Heck and Catherine Stine Heck. These parents died in Iowa, winter of 1842 - 1843.

Initially, George W. Stine accepted guardianship of his two nephews. Since George was living in Lee Co., IA at the time of the deaths of George and Catherine Stine Heck, I have assumed they traveled together to Lee Co., IA to establish homes for their families. When Jacob and Elizabeth Strock Stine arrived in Lee County they assumed care of their grandsons.
