6Bible, Mason Family. "Family Record of William H. Mason's Parents Amos Benjamin Mason was born March 28, 1822 died Sept 21, 1891 aged 69 years 2 months 28 days." The information for his Birth in bible seems to have come from the his Death notice - (see actual wording). So although the bible gives March 28, 1822, if you use a date calculator, the birthday would be 24 June, 1822 from the dates given in that particular Deach notice "Middletown Daily Press". The other Obituary, "Argus" gave birth date as 25 June, 1822. Since I think "Middletown" came up with the days months and years of his life from first knowing his birthdate and that such dates are hard to calculate by yourself because of leap years etc., I believe 25 June 1822 to be the best guess.

7Records of Joan Mason Say. Birthdate from Argus newspaper (Middletown, New York) Obituary is "Mr. Mason was born in Bethel, Sullivan County, June 25, 1822".

9Records of Joan Mason Say, . "Died. Mason--In this city, Sept. 22, of paralysis, Amos B. Mason aged 69 years, 2 months, 28 days. Funeral Thursday, 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's church. Buriel at Phillipsburg." Middletown Daily Press dated Sept 22, 1891 Calculating date from this information, Amos would be born 24 Jun 1822.

10Charles Mason Whitman, 1 Genealogy of the Mason Family (Relatives of Amos Benjamin [1812-1891]), . "Obituary, Mr. A. B. Mason, who was stricken with paralysis on Saturday, died shortly after four o'clock this morning. He regained consciousness yesterday and recognized several of his children who had hurried to his bedside as soon as they learned of his illness. Mr. Mason was born in Bethel, Sullivan County, June 25, 1822 and was therefore in his 70th year. He was married in February, 1846, to Hester A McMullen, at Alamuchy, N.J., and eleven children were born to them, all of whom survive. Mrs. Mason died in 1869, her's being the only death in the family of thirteen persons until this morning. Mr. Mason resided for many years at Washington, N.J., but for the past 15 years has resided in this city. He was a devout member of St. Paul's M.E. Church. The surviving children are Lorenzo D., John W., and Matthew N., residing in this city; Amelia, wife of Francis Williams, Sarah E. wife of Herman Kleen, Thirzah, wife of Fred P. Thorne, and Frank E., all of Elizabeth, N.J.; William H., of Chicago; Nathaniel H. of Huntingdon, Ind.; Andrew W., of Newark, N. J.; and Morris W., of Washington, N.J.. The funeral notice will be found elsewhere." The Argus Tuesday Sept 22, 1891 (Middletown, New York) (copy of Newspaper).

Freeman, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83401, Honey was living as of 1987, in New Jersey. "Honey is the daughter of Harriet Irene Burr and the grandaughter of Margaret Aschenbach and Benjamin Eli Burr." She identified Margaret in the newspaper picture and said that the youngest girl Francis was standing behind her. (she personally knew the family) She also gave us the information and location of the cemetary and where to find the graves. She said that the Burrs were also burried there, that she used to visit the graves. But we only found one Burr (a Steven Burr).

"Saxe-Meiningen was a dukedom, or duchy, or kingdom in Germany at the time the Aschenbachs lived there. It is actually in the present day state of Thuringen. The town they came from was actually Schweina and it is in the approximate area of Weimar. It's a long story, but I found an Aschenbach on the Internet who had a Weimar address. I wrote him and it turned out that he is an American who is an opera singer (tenor) in Weimar. He got me the addresses of two Aschenbachs who live in the hamlet of Schweina as well as the address of the church where Valentin was baptised, as it turned out!." Ruth's explaination of how she made initial contact in Schwiena to find Valentine.
