?ROSEANNA SWEARINGEN: Roseanna Swearingen may have been a daughter of Samuel. She married J( Burcham and settled in Surry Co, NC, which is near the VA fine. Roseanna was called wife of John Burch in Index to Volunteer Soldiers, 1784-181 1. She was probably bom ca 1740, and married ca 1758, John Burcham Sr, a Quaker. John was bom ca 1740, Frederick Co, VA, died 1813, Suny Co, NC, and was bul in Surry Co. He was the son of Joseph Burcham and Rebecca Borden. Joseph, John, and Henry Burcham signed the Regulators Petition in 1769 in Anson Co, along with Van Swearingen, but I don!t know if this significant at this time. John Burcham owned land in both Surry Co, NC and Grayson Co, VA, was on a grievance list 9 Oct 1769 in Anson Co, NC, and received land grant 43 502 on northeast Peedee in NC on 23 Jul 1774. He signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (Oath of Allegiance) in 1775, along with his father and brothers. On l8 July l789, John and children, Levi, Isabel, Susannah Sarah Joseph, Ruben, and Shubel were received into membership at the Westfield Monthly Meeting in Surry County, NC (New Gari Meeting Minutes). In 1801 John Burcham deeded land in Carroll Co, VA, to his son Levi (Grayson Co, I Deed Bk 1, p393).

Elizabeth Swearingen, probably born ca l7l7. I have not yet found documentation to show that Elizabeth is a daughter of John so she could belong elsewhere. Elizabeth married I Aug 1734, in Prince Georges Co, MD, Saiinuel Butt. He was born 10 Oct 1712, Prince Georges Co, MD, and died ca 1786, Montgomery Co, MD. Elizabeth died in May 1796, Montgomery Co, MD. Children were Mary Butt, Keziah Butt, Swearingon Butt, Richard Butt (married Sarah Ginn), Samuel Butt Jr (married Rachel Duval), Ann Butt (married William Green Jr), Lidia Butt (married Ambrose Hawker), Elizabeth Butt, John Butt, Aaron Butt (married Rachel), Bazil Butt, Ruth Butt, Rigenal Butt, and Hazel Butt (married Elizabeth).
