Looking for some great links to genelaogy sources? Here is a list of some of my favorites. I hope they will be as valuable to you in your research as they have been and continue to be in mine.

  • The Genealogy Shop - This is a site (which happens to belong to us) that offers Old City Directories on CD-ROM. These will help you find out where your ancestors lived and worked, and more important, help you find addresses to those sometimes elusive ancestors for the Census.
  • DistantCousin.com - Search this totally free database for your Surnames, City Directories, Census Records, Ship Lists, Internment Lists and much much more.
  • Ancestry.com - Some portions of this data base is free, and some are paid subscriptions. You will find a link to the Social Security Death Index, On line Census Records, and large Vital Record Index. Put your queries on Ancestries free Message Boards and see who else is researching your family.
  • Ellis Island Records - This is a brand new data base and is free. Search for your ancestors that arrived into Ellis Island and the Port of New York between the years 1892-1924
  • The Latter Day Saints Family Search - This is a free database, search for your family on the International Genealogy Data Base, look for microfilm numbers in their Library, and download free and paid genealogy software.
  • Rootsweb - Search the Rootsweb site for a wealth of information. Here you will find the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness Site, search for your ancestors on the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild Site, find a genealogy mailing list, and much much more. This is a free site with more links full of information that you could possibly imagine.
  • New York City application forms for archival birth, death, & marriage certificates - Are you always looking for the page that supplies the form to order NYC Vital Records from the Municipal Archives? Well here it is.
  • New York Department of Health - A link to provide the information you need when ordering Vital Records from the State of New York
