GREENWOOD, Briar The preliminary hearing for a Kingston man charged with second- degree murder in the 1999 battering death of a three-year-old began yesterday at the provincial court building on Wellington Street. Michael Richard Beauchamp, 30, has been in custody for more than a year awaiting trial. He is charged in the death of Briar Serena Greenwood. The preliminary inquiry, which determines whether the Crown's case is sufficient to send to trial, will take roughly five days. The proceedings are under a publication ban, however. The murder charge was laid after paramedics answered an emergency call to the toddler's Queen Street home Oct. 17, 1999. |
