SS # 6 Annual reports of
the Local Superintendents and Local Boards of Trustees
Archives of Ontario – Series RG 2-17
Transcribed
by AM Benson
1850 school house –log building, built 1850, 24 x 18 inferior or third class build, freehold with desks, seats, playground and privy.
1851 report – during the year 1851 unqualified teachers have been hanged for qualified ones and ? males for females which causes some little irregularity in the amount paid teachers compared to the number of months the schools have been kept open by a qualified teacher.
School in operation from 1846 – one room log school build 1845- freehold – second class school in good condition
1855 – one deaf or dumb female within municipality
1858 The School Library Catalogue and
pamphlets on School Architecture have been distributed, but as yet without any
effects. The chief aim at present seems to be to keep the schools open the
whole year, and employ better teachers, if they succeed n this last object the
teachers influence may probably excite a wish to procure the necessary maps and
apparatus for proper education, good school houses and libraries. I regret to
say there are now two Separate R.C. Schools on the
1861 – eight free schools and
six partly free
1862 – free schools - # 3,
#5, #7, #8, #10, #13, #14, partly free schools #1, #2, #4, #6, #9, #11.
