Wolfe Island Schools
Seperate School Sections
Seperate School Sections= SSS
In 1854 the first meeting of the first separate school in the township was called by Thomas Gilligan.
Shortly thereafter SS1 was built.
In 1859 there was still only one seperate school...
“…There are now fifteen schools in this township, including the separate school. The people in all the sections are anxious to support them, but they do not seem aware of the necessity for providing proper libraries, maps and apparatus. Edward Murray 1859” (County of 1000 Lakes)
As the population and need increased, four separate schools were established - Separate Schools # 1, 2, 4, and 7. These schools were brought together under the Union Separate Board on January 1, 1946. In 1971, the four smaller schools were amalgamated under Sacred Heart School named in conjunction to Sacred Heart of Mary Church. It is the present location of Grades 1 - 8 and is also the home of The Msgr. Ryan Outdoor Education Center and Extended Adult Education Classes.
