Wolfe Island School: SSS7![]() Click on photo for larger version I took this picture in 1998 I belive. I've been told it was a Catholic School. May 13 2003- while driving past this school I see that there is painted in faded letter, S.S. 7 Built: 1901 Location: Con 12 Lot 1 NBL Closed: after 1950's/60's At present: Still standing in 2005 Image of page: Seperate School teachers 1912 & info on their schools From Theresa Broeders-re Foot School-"I spoke to Joan O'Shea our current Tweedsmuir History Curator who said she copied the notes from our past curator, Marion MacDonnell which stated that S.S.S.#7 was called the Foot School. I also talked to Doreen Joslin[St. Lawrence Women's Institute member] about which public school was cosidered and called the foot school and she said S.S.#13 until it closed and then S.S.#8 which makes sence. So #7 was the Catholic Foot School and St.Lawrence[#13] was the Public Foot school, then Breakey's Bay[#8]. Laura Monroe writes that Paddy Doyle emigrated to the island from England with his wife. They had 14 children on the island, and 11 lived and these children attended this school abt 1950's 60's (family still lives on the island) Teachers:1912-Annie BegleyEvelyn McLaren, Rae McLaren, Mrs. Taggart, Theo Taggart, Theresa Fargo, Louise MacDonnell, Anita Murphy, Colleen [Greenwood] Macdonald, Gertude [McCue] MacDonald, James Meagher. Also see: Teachers Apparently when Rae was teaching there were 47 pupils and a curtain was hung dividing the room in two. Thanks to Theresa Broeders for info on teachers!
