Built: 1850
Location: between the 3rd and 4th Con, on the front road- Lot? Con? NBL or SBL?
When did it become a seperate school?
Closed: March 8 1971
At present: Still standing??





Located just east of the line between the 3rd and 4th Con, on the front road. The front school was originally a common school in School Section 2 and later became a separate school.
The land for the school was donated.
James Dufferin Cosgrove taught here from 1902-1904 with a starting salary of 240$.

Simcoe island children were rowed over in the summer each family taking turns.
-In 1880 one boy drowned crossing the ice to school.
attendance was 60 pupils that year. Seats were around the walls as well as 4 rows.
-1882 S.S.#1 built on Simcoe Island - safer and better for those pupils.
-1900 an addition was built 10 ft. added, new floor and platform,2 new windows and outside walls clap boarded.
-1913 24 new desks with lift covers were installed.
-1928 walls ,ceiling repainted and inside redecorated.
-1935 parish priest, Father Feeney weekly visits.
-September, 1937 - Archbishop O'Brien requested a cross be erected on the school.
-1938 manual training work bench installed and splendid set of tools.
-1938 music teacher employed 1 hour each wednesday - vocal lessons
-1938/39 Christian Doctrine studied - Father Feeney
-Jan. 1 1946 Union Seperate School Board formed cositing of 1,2,4 and 7 three trustees Tim O'Shea, Melvile Staley [ who gave this information], and Michael O'Connell
-1958 well drilled & 2 washrooms installed.
-1960 Carey Mc Allister & Francis O'Rielly's children transfered here.
-1961 James Mc Allister and John Karremans children transferred.
-1969 only grade 5 pupils attended this school. In May of this year grade 5 students from St. Joseph's Kingston visited and also Melvile Staley's farm. First time they saw a donkey.
-1969 Union Seperate School Board dissolved & the County School Board formed remained the same until it closed on March 8, 1971
