THE ISLANDS NEWSLETTER

February 8, 2005What's new at The Islands website!
Greeting from the Webmaster
Hello everyone!

It's that time again, I'm a bit late this month, and my apologizes! There has been so many great submissions to the site this month I've been busy trying to get everything online as quickly as possible! Many thanks to Peter Rogers and Jerry Vaugn for helping me keep up to speed by transcribing a number of the scanned images you're sending in.
I am still way behind in transcribing articles should anyone be interested, but Peter has been a super help by transcribing all the obits/death notices that come in.
Big thanks to Chris Morrell for her continued work on the Island Tree which is now over 25, 700 people!
Many thanks as well to AM Benson for continually sending in notices of marriage and deaths, and articles from old Kingston Whig issues and for typing up all of the DEATH registrations she's gathered over the years and sending them in (over 300!) Since the last newsletter I put up hundreds of birth and marriage registrations she sent in. I will be putting up these death registrations shortly.

A Few Notes...

Please Support This Site!

Please help support this site! This site grows by the kind submissions of researchers and those interested in preserving their history. Please send in scans of old photos and documents, transcriptions of certificates, obituaries, bibles etc. There is a spot for EVERYTHING on this site, and if there isn't I will make one. Please contact me if you don't have a scanner and would like to mail COPIES of photos or documents for me to scan and/or transcribe. (They will not be returned and you must cover postage costs)
Please help out by sending in anything island related, even if it isn't for your family! Mystery photos are most welcome! Please email me if you would like to help the site grow! Credit will be given to the submitter.

Coming Soon!
AM Benson has been kind enough to transcribe the Wolfe Island Death registrations she's collected over the years. I hope to start putting these up today or tomorrow.

Chris is still working on transcribing the 1861 Wolfe Island census. She is only doing headings Name, birthplace, religion, age, occupation as this is to be used as a guide. The first Ward is now online.

If you would like to help out by transcribing some island related articles please email me, as I'm getting quite behind in these.

I am still trying to sort out Amherst Island schools- if anyone can help please email me.

Working Together
The Islands site is built and grows through the efforts of those who use it. I do what I can to add new information, but I am only one person. Please consider submitting information, photos or anything else you have to add to this site. Credit will be given to the submitter.
Submissions are greatly needed for Amherst Island. Surf the pages to see what IS there.

EMAIL ME

If you would like to post anything to this newsletter please email me about it. I'd be happy to put little blurbs- either about family or if you would like to discuss an island topic or recount some island memories.

EVERYONE! Please don't forget to put the word 'ISLAND' somewhere in your subject line when you email me! I know I'm missing some of your emails because there is no subject line, or it is 'hi' or something similar and I delete it. I get A LOT of spam and don't take the time to check every email- I look at my subject lines. Thank you.

Island Chat

If anyone is interested in have scheduled chats in the Island Chat room please drop me a note and we can make up some times. Such chats would be a great opportunity to meet your fellow island researchers, compare notes, ideas and share where and how to find information.
Please put "Chat" in the subject line.

BRICKWALL

"I have spent 20 years trying to tie up loose ends of the following relationship:

HUGH KELSO (KELSEY) GILMORE, b. about 1786 in Cambridge, Washington County, NY; d. 1831-35 on Wolfe Island; m. ELIZABETH SHELLEY about 1804 in NY. They had six or seven children.

ELIZABETH SHELLEY was b. 1776 in NY; d. 1869 in Richfield, Hennepin County, Minnesota. She might have married second a man named SNIDER/SNYDER on Wolfe Island. She left Wolfe Island with her youngest child in 1840 and moved to Minnesota."
