Napanee Couple Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary
Napanee, Oct 25—Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Davidson Davies, Napanee, are 50 years married. Their Golden Wedding anniversary will be quietly celebrated on Friday, Oct. 26. Married in 1895 at Kingston by the late Rev. Dr. McGillvray, Mr. and Mrs. Davis took their nuptial vows quietly at the Presbyterian parsonage with the minister’s wife and daughter as attendants.
This happily married couple are the parents of seven children, George, Detroit; Chester, Toronto; Gladys (Mrs. Frank Barber), Sault Ste. Marie; Marguerite, (Mrs. Russell Hunt), Cincinnati; Hazel, (Mrs. Ernie Kunz), Detroit; Agnes, (Mrs. Daniel Kirkpatrick), Toronto, and Mattilda (Tillie), now Mrs. Henry Bubetz, Detroit. In addition the anniversary celebrants have 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Davies will be 72 years of age on January 21, 1946, having been born in 1874, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel D. Davis, South Napanee. Mrs. Davies was the former Margaret Annie Reid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Reid, Amherst Island. She was 68 years of age on June 26 of this year, having been born in 1877.
Both members of this happy union are in good health and in possession of all their faculties. Mr. Davis is an active gardener and his wife raises and sells canaries as her hobby. The groom of 50 years ago recalls that he has worked since he was 10 years of age when he began his life’s labors at the salary of $10 a month. “I am still working,” says Mr. Davies, “And I expect to keep right on.”
