To His Excellency the Right Honourable Sir Charles Bagot
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath
one of Her Majesty's most Honourable Privy Council, Governor General
of British North America, and Captain General, and Governor in Chief, in
and over the Provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the
Island of Prince Edward, and Vice Council of the same.

The Petition of John Mosier, Mariner native
of Kingston, at present residing in Long Island.

Humbly Sheweth That the Petitioner, who was formerly Master
Mariner, had the honor of serving his country on many dangerous
occasions, during the course of the late Rebellion, more particularly
in the attack on the Caroline Steamer, when he had the charge
of three brigades of boats, under the command of captain Drew, and
served at the Ganowshie? outbreak. In that for his zealous parti-
cipation in the various conflicts that took place during the Rebellion
he has ensured the antipathy of the americans, who would be glad
to seize any opportunity to wreak their vengence on the Petitioner
for his acts in defence of his country. From such animosity on the
part of the partisans of the rebels on the american side, the petitioner
is prevented from entering the american ports, as formerly in his vo-
cation of Mariner, from which cause the pecuniary affairs of the
petitioner have been much embarrassed, or almost entirely paralyzed,
having suffered much pecuniary loss, and his prospects of a compe
tency for the comfort of old age entirely dissolved. The petitioner
further begs to refer to the Honorable John McAulay, and the
Honourable John Emsley, who commanded one of the boats on
the attack on the Carolline Steamer for reference as to the
respectiblity and sincerity of the petitioner. The aformentioned
Honourable Gentleman, having kindlly granted the petitioner full
power to use their names in this application.
Your petitioner, therefore, humbly prays, that , in con-
sideration of his numerous services to his Queen and country
and the consequent loss of trade and property. That your
Excellency will be pleased to give and to grant to the
petitioner John Mosier the full possession of the small
island, at present uninhabited, called Pigeon Island situated
some eighteen miles from Kingston, on Lake Ontario, with
full power to the petitioner to have and to hold the
aforementioned Pigeon Island during her Majestys pleasure.

And your petitionor as is Duty Bound
Shall ever Pray
