Kingston 4th August 1831
Sir:
I am requested by one of the Proprietors of Wolf
Island to ascertain if the following Lots on that
Island belonging to the Clergy Reserves are for
sale, and on what terms or if they could be
procured in Exchange for other lots of equal quality.
The Island having been divided amongst the Proprietors,
it appears the object of the enquirer, is to endeavor
to have his land as compact as possible to prevent
depredation, of which a great deal has been
going on lately both by the tenants and people from
the States.

Lots mentioned in your letter have been
already made to this office by different
individuals.
Sir:
Your letter of the 4th Inst
to
the Honble G Hillarklaw, respecting the purchase
certain Clergy Reserves in Wolfe Island, has
been referred by him to this office, and in
answer I beg to acquaint you, that the
government have not authorized the sale
of clergy Reserves ---------(stroked through)
to persons who are already large landed
proprietors, they are only to be disposed of
to actual settlers & in such lots as they may
be able to bring into cultivation.
