Woodman House, Main Street, Marysville
Taken May 13 2003

From County of 1000 Lakes:
"The Woodman House opened as a summer home for fishermen and tourists on 15 June 1923 by W.S. Woodman & Sons, it is still in operation under the Woodman family. Before 1919 it was operated as a summer resort by D.J. Dawson. It's name then was Villa-The-St.Lawrence."

From Bruce Devine, 2002:
My uncle was the late Bruce Woodman & my grandmother Dottie Woodman ran Woodman House.
The Woodman house, a summer hotel, is in the village & has been operated by Woodman's since the 1920's
Th House has been in the Woodman family since just after the turn of the last century (I believe) my mother was born in that house in 1919, married there too, it was built by a man named Bolton & was originalling operated by the Dawson Family & called Villa on the St. Lawrence.
Dotties father in law, W.G. Woodman ran it before 1923, not sure from when but I know they were already living there in 1919 when my Mom was born in that house.

Dottie Woodman Operated Resort
Wolfe Island- Dottie G. Woodman, 88, was buried Saturday from the Wolfe Island home she and her late husband, Stanley, had operated as a tourist resort since 1923.
Woodman House, a two storey, frame dwelling which overlooks Lake Ontario, was built more than a century ago.
It will remain in the Woodman family.
Mrs. Woodman, the former Dottie Campsall, died last Wednesday at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital in Kingston following a prolonged illness.
She was buried in Point Alexandria Cemetery on the island.
Woodman House was extremely popular with American tourists. Its clientele were mainly fishermen and hunters.
Mrs. Woodman and her husband, a former fishing guide, took over the property in 1923. She continued operating Woodman House following his death in 1949.
Mrs. Woodman leaves a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Minnie Elizabeth) Devine of Belleville, whose husband is the former president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, and two sons, Bruce and Winfield, both of Wolfe Island.
