The Old Ferry to Howe Island
"Betty Stevens (neMarshall) personally knows that
the man operating the ferry boat was Les Bishop.
Les owned all of the point on the mainland
( across from the east end of Howe Island)
and owned the boat privately." Info submitted by Wilf Garrah

From Wilf Garrah: In the left corner
of the photo is a pic of the thrashing machine used to separate the oat
heads from the stocks of straw. The tractor was stream driven. The long belt running from the tractor powered the thrasher machine. Reason for the long belt being crossed was that both sides of the belt would wear down at the same time, otherwise, if not done his way, one side of the belt would be thinner then the other and would constantly slip off the wheels causing the machine to shut down.
